Back to the Future

from Entering the Fifth Dimension: A Twilight Zone Podcast Hosted by Golden Spiral Media, Entering the Fifth Dimension, Darrell Darnell, Robert Beury

Is the line between one era and the next as thin as a single step, a single flash of light, and just as impossible to uncross? This month we cross that threshold with two travelers flung into unfamiliar futures, neither one prepared for what waits on the other side. Both stories ask whether escaping your own time can ever mean escaping your own fate, and whether justice or love holds more power to follow a person across the years. We're breaking down "Execution" from season 1 and "A Hundred Yards Over the Rim" from season 2, two Twilight Zone journeys through time that prove the past has a very long reach. In "Execution", condemned killer Joe Caswell escapes his own 1880 hanging when a scientist's time machine hurls him into 1960, but the noose he dodges finds another neck when a cornered criminal stumbles into that same lab. In "A Hundred Yards Over the Rim", pioneer Christian Horn crosses a ridge in 1847 searching for medicine for his dying son and lands on a 1961 highway, where a diner and a stranger hold both a cure and a glimpse of the boy's future. One man escapes justice by trading it away. The other bends time itself for love. Which crossing costs more?
