The Grand Inquisitor (dramatic reading) Fyodor Dostoyevsky The Grand Inquisitor is a parable told by Ivan to Alyosha in Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel The Brothers Karamazov (1879–1880). Ivan and Alyosha are brothers; Ivan questions the possibility of a personal, benevolent God and Alyosha is a novice monk. The Grand Inquisitor is an important part of the novel and one of the best-known passages in modern literature because of its ideas about human nature and freedom, and because of its fundamental ambiguity. In the tale, Christ comes back to earth in Seville at the time of the Inquisition. He performs a number of miracles (echoing miracles from the Gospels). The people recognize him and adore him, but he is arrested by Inquisition leaders and sentenced to be burnt to death the next day. The Grand Inquisitor visits him in his cell to tell him that the Church no longer needs him. The main portion of the text is the Inquisitor explaining to Jesus why his return would interfere with the mission of the church. (Summary by Wikipedia)Ca Catechesis Lewis and Broad Catechesis : teaching; instruction by word of mouth. We are going back to our roots, to studying the word of God through spoken word. Each episode will be a preview and explanation of the text to come in the following Sunday. Our mission here is so that all may know God's love. This podcast is associated with the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange in LaGrange, GA. Moments of silence Take a minute to think about someone random in the world and in time. Someone born in the wrong place at the wrong time. Take this minute to read the text and give your day a chance to internalize about something that could be happening right now, as you're reading or listening, somewhere, where you can't see or hear. Steal this minute from Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin or Spotify. Give back this minute to someone else. Dedicate it. These moments of silence are not to remember something you think you know but to feel something you never took the time to really feel. For a minute. No Strings Attached Jocelyn Marie Ever wanted to have a friendship with no strings attached no obligation to send back text messages or go to dinners that you just never wanted to go to in the first place.. well I’m a friendship you can have with no strings attached.. just an open ear 💭
