Backbone River
from David Hosking · host David Hosking
The hidden track from the 2003 album "Sleeper". I had to smoke a little and drink a little whiskey the night before recording this to get the vocal sound I wanted. I grew up in a place called Werribee. Almost two hundred years ago a local from the Kulin Nation told a passing whitefella that the river that flowed through the area was called Werribee - which in the local language meant backbone or spine. More whitefellas came but didn't pass through Werribee. They stayed, stole the river, the land, the dreams and the future from that man who was kind enough to tell us what the word Werribee means. Recorded and Mixed by Shane O'Mara at Yikesville Studios. Mastered by Ross Cockle, Sing Sing Studios. Photograph - Natasha Stellmach. Art and design by Michael Lelliott ©David Hosking 2003.
