A patient will die if they go untreated and develop too many complications. The aim of the game is to amass victory points by shipping goods to Europe or by constructing buildings. Each governor has their own tableau, with spaces for city buildings, plantations, and resources. Shared between the players are three ships, a trading house, and a supply of resources and doubloons. Grow crops and exchange them for victory points or doubloons. Doubloons can be used to buy buildings, which allow players to produce more crops or give them other abilities. But you will need colonists to work your plantations and buildings. Governors take turns selecting a role card (such as “Trader” or “Builder”). When a role is chosen, every player gets to take the action appropriate to that role. Earn victory points for owning buildings, for shipping goods, and for manned “large buildings.” The governor with the most victory points at the end of the game wins the game, and a 50 ft bronze statue will be erected in San Juan for that player, the greatest governor in the history of Puerto Rico! The goal is to collect the most yellow colored stones as you move along the track, and try to avoid the blue stones, which count as negative points. Players move by playing cards from their hand. Seven cards in total: 1 through 5 plus a special card which allows you to move the same as the last card played by another player, and another special card which allows you to leapfrog to the lead position on the track. You can’t play a card that was just played by another player (if Ed placed a 3, I can not also place my 3 card, I have to choose something else) The last spot on the board holds the lone red stone which will knock out one of your blue stones in the final count.
