Bad Medicine: Army Master Sgt Richard Stayskal got Congress to change malpractice law … now he’s fighting cancer and the DoD

Today we’re examining a landmark medical malpractice case. Army Master Sgt. Richard Stayskal was diagnosed with lung cancer by a civilian doctor, but he shares how the Army saw a mass in his lung first but did not notify him or immediately start treatment.  We hear how together with powerhouse attorney Natalie Khawam, they first had to overcome the “Feres Doctrine,” a 70-year-old legal precedent which prevented service members from filing malpractice claims against the DoD.Although they succeeded in forcing Congress to pass a bill that eventually would include malpractice reform in the Defense budget, his struggle continued.Despite having the opportunity to file a malpractice claim regarding his cancer diagnosis, Stayskal and Khawam describe the shocking truth behind the current claims process.  Lastly, we hear the statement provided by a US Army spokesperson after declining our request for an interview.
