Summary
Dr. Grant Elliott with RehabFix Online Low Back Program: Have you been told your low back pain is because you have "bad posture"? Well, you aren't alone, and unfortunately, you and many others have been told outdated information that does not cause low back pain! This is a myth! Posture is dynamic and always changing, your posture truly doesn't matter! However, how long you are in a given posture does matter. A fantastic saying I want you to remember is "The best posture is the one you are in for the next 5 minutes." This is so true because MOVEMENT is what our body craves. You can sit in what you believe to be "perfect posture" but you will notice after 20 minutes you'll start to slouch or sit some other way. This isn't because you are failing to maintain good posture, it's because your body is telling you it is sick of that position! Your body wants to move! The more movement you get the better, and the longer you are in ANY posture the worse off you will be. This is a huge misconception that is still spread that I work through with every single one of my online clients because EVERYBODY has been told they have to fix their posture and it simply isn't true! I will never tell anyone they need to fix their posture to fix their low back.
