Badass Unscripted – Uncommon Agile Leadership Without Certification

Agile Certification is a for-profit product. Can it be an effective way to become a better Agile Leader? Education is a way to develop skills and learn concepts quickly. Modern education, and industry certifications are designed to ensure predictable outcomes from regular employees. While Agile Certifications can be a great way for a beginner to ramp up quickly, they are NOT the best way to develop Agile Leadership skill. We are not trying to be doctors or lawyers. Life, death, or freedom do not depend on what we do as Agile practitioners. A computer-based quiz and a paper certification is not a testament to our effectiveness in our role. Leaders don't graduate. They arise. The best way to develop your skill is to immerse yourself in a team. Lead when called for, and be content to follow too. Focus on becoming visionary. Develop your discipline. Learn to focus and commit. Learn to persist in the face of challenge. In the face of your own shortcomings. Find mentors and walk toward mastery. This is the most effective path.
