Badgers' OL Battle Against Notre Dame | Wisconsin Badgers Football News

The Wisconsin Badgers face a major offensive line question heading into their big showdown with Notre Dame, as key starters Emerson Mandell and Kevin Heywood remain sidelined due to injury. With both players still rehabbing — Mandell recovering from foot surgery and Heywood battling a fresh lower-body setback after an ACL tear — Coach Luke Fickell insists decisions won’t be made until closer to game day. That leaves emerging talents like transfer guard Stylz Blackmon and rookie tackle Lucas Simmons-Johansson stepping up, though they lack the experience of last year’s starter. The coaching staff is balancing caution with optimism, knowing this game is critical but also that the season stretches ahead. Notre Dame’s stacked, NFL-caliber defensive front makes this matchup a true test — one where health, depth, and adaptability could decide the outcome.
