12일 오후 서울광장에서 박근혜 대통령의 즉각 퇴진을 요구하는 2016년 민중총궐기 거리행진이 시작되었다. 이날 본 총궐기 본 집회를 마친 약 65만 명의 시민들은 서울광장에서 의주로터리·정동길·을지로입구·한국은행로터리·광화문광장 등을 거쳐 내자동 로터리까지 행진을 진행할 계획이다. 시민들은 평화를 상징하는 촛불과 함께 ´박근혜 대통령 퇴진´ 등의 팻말과 함께 구호를 외쳤으며 경찰은 청와대로 향하는 길목에 3중 차벽 설치를 마친 상태이다.
