When attacked by a Canaanite king, Israel prevails; soon, complaints erupt again, and venomous serpents strike. God instructs Moses to raise a bronze serpent—those who look upon it live. Marching east, Israel sings at a well and defeats Sihon and Og, arriving at Moab’s plains across from Jericho.
