Band On The Run by Paul McCartney & Wings
from Classic Albums. Hosted by Stevie Nix · host Stevie Nix
The album emerged from difficult circumstances, recorded largely by a stripped-down trio after members of Wings left just before the sessions. What might have been a setback instead forced McCartney to focus, writing, producing and performing much of the music himself and rediscovering the melodic instinct and studio imagination that had defined his earlier work. The result was an album that felt both familiar and new. Band on the Run carries echoes of the melodic craft and adventurous spirit McCartney had helped pioneer in the Beatles, but it also reflects the looser, more exploratory spirit of the 1970s.
