Dr. Barbara Oakley is an author, speaker, professor, engineer, and adventurer - take a look at her twitter page...she is “a female Indiana Jones.” Barbara is the author of numerous books two of which Mindshift: Break Through Obstacles to Learning and Discover Your Hidden Potential (2017) and A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science (Even If You Flunked Algebra) [2014] have been translated into more than a dozen languages. Barbara has a cool educational background… Ph.D. in Systems Engineering Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Bachelor of Arts in Slavic Languages and Literature A graduate of the United States Army Signal Officer Course, Fort Gordon, Georgia A graduate of the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California But wait...there's so much more…. She worked as a Russian translator for several fishing seasons on Soviet fishing trawlers in the Bering Sea. Barbara wrote a book about this experience…it's called - Hair of the Dog: Tales from a Russian Trawler. Her current work focuses on the complex relationship between neuroscience and social behavior. Her research has been described as “revolutionary” in the Wall Street Journal. She and her husband have been married for 33 years and have two daughters and two adopted sons from Kosovo.
