Today we have Barbara Olsthoorn on the show!! Barbara is the owner of 3 businesses in London's Covent Garden Market! The Piping Kettle Soup Co., The Better Blend Smoothie Bar and C'est Cheez Artisan Sandwiches (making some of the best grilled cheese sandwiches you will ever have!!) What a journey Barbara has had that we are able to explore and learn so much from. Coming to London to study photography, but quickly realizing she wanted to do other things, and began to explore other career opportunities outside of photography. Barbara started working for a smoothie business in the Covent Garden Market (owned by the family who owns The Piping Kettle Soup Co), and Barbara quickly became an integral part of the family of businesses, implementing operations and systems that helped the company run more streamlined. Eventually the opportunities of ownership with the smoothie business became available and Barbara jumped at the opportunity! This is a conversation about working hard and being dedicated and opportunities will come, but also creating your own opportunities through that hard work and dedication. We talk about the importance of being a business owner who is on the front-line, talking to your customers and understanding what your customers truly want, not what you think they want! We talk about trust, building a team, managing three businesses and the true grit and grind it takes to build a successful business. We also discuss how supportive the Covent Garden Market has been with Barbara, to support her ideas and business ventures and entrepreneur spirit.
