Barchester Towers by Anthony Trollope | Victorian Church Politics, Romance, Scandal & Social Satire Audiobook Part 2

⭐ Catholic Review — 4.5/5 Stars A particularly interesting Victorian novel for examining pride, ambition, hypocrisy, humility, charity, conscience, and the proper use of authority. Although the story is firmly rooted in the Church of England, many of its moral questions are recognizable from a broader Christian perspective. Catholic listeners may especially appreciate Trollope's contrast between sincere religious service and characters who use religious institutions for personal advancement or social power. At the same time, this is a work of social satire rather than Catholic theology, and its Anglican ecclesiastical setting should be kept in mind.
