Barlow’s Fall from Closer Glory | Kansas City Royals News

Scott Barlow’s baseball journey took a sharp turn after a promising stint with the Royals, where he racked up 56 saves from 2018-2023. Signed by the A’s for $2M, his 2024 season cratered—6.48 ERA, 19 walks, 29 strikeouts in 33⅓ innings led to his release in June. A minor league comeback with the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate ended with a 5.65 ERA and no big league call-up. Now a free agent, Barlow’s future likely lies in another minor league deal—another reminder of baseball’s brutal, fast-moving nature.
