Barnaby Rudge Chapter 55

In which a lone man sits amidst the ruins of a once-proud tavern, untouched by the chaos that surrounds him, until a shadowy stranger arrives, alarmed by the tolling of a dreadful bell that seems to summon a grim reckoning. The night then erupts in a fierce and unrelenting conflagration, as a mob consumes the house in flames and destruction, leaving behind only ruin and the haunting silence of desolation.
