General Washington knew his troops must be trained and morale built in time for a springtime campaign, and he placed his trust in Baron Von Steuben, a brilliant Prussian officer that Ben Franklin, on assignment in France, had recruited for exactly that reason. One man, with no English speaking skills, two assistant translators, and an Italian greyhound named Azor, was going to shoulder the responsibility for training Washington's troops in three short months.
