Barred Owls in Dyke Marsh
from Laura Sebastianelli · host Laura Sebastianelli
In west Dyke Marsh, a Barred Owls calls in the foreground, another responding in background (after 3 min), then calling back and forth. Other natural sounds include Green Frogs (Bullfrogs were calling earlier) and Spring Crickets. Rain begins about midway, and increases especially towards last portion of recording (sounds like static).Additionally some cars can be heard on the George Washington Memorial Parkway. The Owls were calling for about an hour -- this recording, under 10 min, is when they were closest to our condo balcony. They did change their location throughout the hour from directly out back of River Towers to woods to the east and back again to directly behind River Towers. Recorded April 23, 2016 around 4am with Fostex FR2, Sennheiser ME62, and Telinga Parabola. 64 degrees, cloudy and then light rain increasing (sounds like static). Edited in Audacity, however NO FILTERS, nor amplification was used in editing -- only cut off the last minute of recording as the owls went silent.
