Barrett and Bielema: Wisconsin's Rivalry Villains | Wisconsin Badgers Football News

ESPN named J.T. Barrett as Wisconsin’s biggest football villain for his gritty 2017 performance against the Badgers — playing through a knee injury to lead Ohio State to a playoff-clinching win and crush their dreams. He also beat them in overtime in 2016, sealing a legacy of heartbreak. Meanwhile, Minnesota fans point squarely at Bret Bielema, who dominated them during his tenure at Wisconsin, winning all seven matchups and keeping Paul Bunyan’s Axe in Madison for years — even after moving on to Illinois, where he continued his streak with just one loss. These two figures embody how one player or coach can become the face of enduring rivalry pain, turning games into generational stories.
