Baseball and BBQ Episode #127: Former MLB Pitcher, Steve Trachsel and Special Guest Co-host/Champion Pitmaster, Doug Scheiding

from Baseball and BBQ · host Len & Jeff

Baseball and BBQ Episode #127 features former MLB pitcher, Steve Trachsel and special guest co-host/champion pitmaster, Doug Scheiding.  Trachsel enjoys talking baseball, but he seems to really love talking about barbecue and wine.  Great baseball and barbecue talk are found here. Steve Trachsel was a Major League pitcher for 16 years.  Known primarily for his time with the Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets, he also played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Baltimore Orioles.  His baseball journey includes being a once-proud member of the Long Beach State Dirtbags and playing in the College World Series.  Steve hit three career home runs and his first was hit off of Curt Schilling.  He possessed an incredible ability to remain on the field and give his teams well-pitched innings, usually throwing more than 200 per year.  His bobblehead is rare, and it is one of the most sought after at the New York Mets Fantasy Camp.  16 years in the Major Leagues are bound to produce some memorable moments and excellent stories, and Steve has tons of them, including giving up Mark McGwire's record-breaking 62nd home run in 1998 and his feelings on Sammy Sosa and his other teammates reactions.  Steve was once nicknamed the "Human Rain Delay" and he discusses how it bothered him at first, but later embraced it and now uses it to his advantage.  Even how he chose his uniform number is a good story.  A lover of barbecue and wine (he even has a wonderful story about visiting Tom Seaver's California Vineyard), Steve is thrilled to talk with Doug and pepper him with lots of really good barbecue talk and some very good questions.         We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards, the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com  to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag, and BBQ Buddha, https://bbqbuddha.com/ for rubs and award-winning sauces. We conclude the show with the song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" by the musician, Dave Dresser, and the poet, Shel Krakofsky.
