Baseball and BBQ Episode #128: Sandy Alderson, New York Mets Team President and Ray Sheehan, BBQ Buddha Founder

Sandy Alderson, New York Mets team president and Ray Sheehan, BBQ Buddha founder and cookbook author are exceptional and because of them, episode 128 is a Baseball and BBQ show you will not soon forget. Sandy Alderson is the New York Mets team president and previously served as the New York Mets general manager, putting together the team that played in the 2015 World Series.  Prior to that he enjoyed successful tenures as general manager for the Oakland Athletics and the chief executive officer for the San Diego Padres.  After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1969, Sandy joined the United States Marine Corps and served a tour of duty in Vietnam.  When his military service ended he attended Harvard Law School, became a lawyer, joined a law firm, and not more than five years later he followed one of the law firm's partners to the Oakland Athletics front office.  Sandy talks about what makes a good general manager,  being in the 1989 World Series when a powerful earthquake struck, and winning with a "small market" team.  Sandy also discusses what makes a good manager and baseball as it has changed during his time in the game.  After listening to Sandy you will have a much better appreciation for what it takes to run a Major League Baseball franchise and the special care which he gives to the many tasks he must handle.  Being curious drives Sandy and he says it has played a major part in his career, a career that has been absolutely incredible.         Ray Sheehan is the founder of BBQ Buddha, a multi-award winning, all natural barbecue sauce and spice blend company.  Ray is also the award-winning cookbook author of Award-Winning BBQ Sauces and How to Use Them:  The Secret Ingredient to Next-Level Smoking  and his newest book is Big Green Egg Basics from a Master Barbecuer.  We first met Ray in 2019 at the Atlantic City BBQ Expo and since then he has made numerous Baseball and BBQ show appearances.   Ray loves barbecue and has an immense wealth of knowledge which he is willing to share with anyone willing to listen.  In addition to running a sauce company and writing cookbooks, he is also a monthly contributor to Barbecue News Magazine.  Ray discusses his cooking experience, how he comes up with the wonderful recipes, and many of the things you never knew went into putting together a cookbook.  More about Ray and purchasing his wonderful sauces, rubs, and books can be found at https://bbqbuddha.com/ With baseball opening day comes tons of predictions and Jeff calls himself a very good guesser as he offers his picks for the season.
