Bastet Deep Dive

Greeting’s heathens and witches, Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast… The Egyptian Goddess Bastet has been worshipped as a fertility, protector, and war goddess for more than 4 millennia. She is usually shown as a slender woman with the head of a cat, but she is so much more than that! We discuss Bastet in depth, and touch on her epithets, iconography, and ties to other deities of the time. Between her luxurious temples, raucous festivals, and her varied background, there’s so much to talk about. As always, we also list some correspondences that can be used in conjunction with her worship. In our discussion, we reference serval of our other episodes, so if you liked this episode, you may also want to check out these: Episode #18, Isis Deep Dive: https://youtu.be/uJgMj6YQZh0 Episode #29, Dagda Deep Dive: https://youtu.be/nXKQgea1niM Sources: https://iseumsanctuary.com/2017/11/13/feast-day-of-sekhmet-and-bastet/ https://www.gutenberg.org/files/69566/69566-h/69566-h.htm#ch164 http://www.public-library.uk/dailyebook/The%20Egyptian%20Book%20of%20the%20Dead.pdf https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastet https://ancientegyptonline.co.uk/bast/ https://egyptianmuseum.org/deities-Bastet http://www.per-bast.org/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seti_I https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Dynasty_of_Egypt https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saqqara http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8468803.stm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubastis https://whenthecurveslineup.com/2023/07/02/2023-helical-rising-of-sirius/ https://www.academia.edu/2341091/The_Cairo_Calendar_as_a_Stellar_Almanac https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/time/days-from.php https://www.ucl.ac.uk/museums-static/digitalegypt/ideology/festivaldates.html https://www.osirisnet.net/docu/fetes_sokar_nehebkaou_bastet_et_oignons/e_fetes_sokar_nehebkaou_bastet_et_oignons.htm https://iseumsanctuary.com/2017/11/13/feast-day-of-sekhmet-and-bastet/ https://www.jasoncolavito.com/the-story-of-setna.html https://egyptopia.com/en/articles/Egypt/history-of-egypt/Tale-of-Setna.s.29.13751/ https://www.grunge.com/234849/bastet-a-guide-to-the-egyptian-cat-goddess/
