In Darwyn Cooke’s first project for DC Comics, he creates a deeply powerful character study of Bruce Wayne’s psyche set against his 3rd year as Batman, exploring Bruce’s motivations for his mission and self-loathing for his failures. After a suspect Batman is pursuing meets a tragic end, he returns to the Batcave, consumed by guilt. As dawn rises, the guilt drives him to pledge Batman's retirement.
