This is Dan Jurgens, and if you want to have a good time, keep listening to The Krypton Report. Jason J. Lewis, the voice of Superman on Justice League action, and you're listening to The Krypton Report. Hello, in the last episode of Batman, and this is James. Hi, guys. James is usually Batman. I sound like a Robin. I'm usually Robin, like, hey, guys, hey. This is The Krypton Report. Welcome, thank you for joining us. Like I said, September is our Batman celebration month, and...

we just finished you up. This episode's coming out a little bit later because I am, so I talked about before my kids are in a play and one of the, it's a play with adults in it and everything too. And one of the adult actors just quit, just went up to the director and said, I quit. And she messaged me and asked me if I could do the part for her. And so it's taking up my time too. It's fine. I'm having a good time, but it's just taking up time. But that's why this is coming out a bit later than planned. But James, let's step back about a week. How was your Batman day?

It was good. I was real busy that day. I saw some things that you guys were doing and commented and chatted with you guys and got to watch some Caped Crusader later on in the evening. How are you feeling about that? I'm about halfway through the second season there. I haven't gotten to watch much more this last week. It's interesting. I mentioned there was a bit where it feels like the character...

Grove kind of stepped back a little bit. But it definitely has this escalating storyline. So that goes from one episode to the next. I need at least three seasons. Because I need to pull it back around. Because I feel like we made a step up with Bruce and Alfred. And we didn't really flesh that out in the second season. I mean, like I said, I'm not all the way done. So I don't know if there's anything in between them. The biggest thing there is just he keeps calling him Pennyworth again.

I just felt like there was going to be a tiny bit more of warmness between the two characters. Right. Exactly. And that's where I'm like, I feel like something's off and it's not, they did them at the same time. And I haven't seen him be as like antagonistic towards him as he was in the first season, you know? Yeah. So it's not like it's that, but what else did you do? Anything else, Batman for Batman day? I know you had stuff going on.

Yeah, no, I was just real busy. So, I mean, that's all the festivities I was able to get into on Batman Day. Well, of course. So for our Batman Day, we decorate the front room like the Batcave. We got up, we were watching, we've been watching animated Batman movies all week. We made pancakes that were Batman pancakes. I had bought some cookie cutters last year that looked just like the Bat symbol. So we made Batman pancakes.

And then we did some games and stuff and played. Like I always like to do like word searches, crossword puzzles. The kids get their Riddler letters and lead them on a goose chase. They got new Batman t-shirts because both of them had outgrown their Batman shirts. So we all now have like the same style Batman shirts. We all match. Then we head up to our local comic book shop and got the Batman Two Worlds issue. See if anything on sale. Then we hit up Spirit Halloween to check out. And then it started to pour the rain. Hardcore.

hardcore we got caught in it as we went to go see Batman Mask of the Phantasm in theaters which was just always fun to see the animated stuff on the big screen and I will say I really wish they would like group the Batman Day films or something like maybe like so this year they did 89 Mask of the Phantasm Lego Batman You know, what if they grouped like Batman, Batman Returns or like Batman 89, Mask of the Phantasm. The next year, like Batman Returns and Lego Batman. And then the next year, like, you know, something where there's a rhythm to it. So it's not just 89 every year put back in theaters. I mean, Batman has a lot of films.

Speaking of which, I really hope they put Batman and Robin back in theaters next year because I feel like that film has gained a following from people like us who grew up with it and people below us who grew up with it. Also, next year's the 30th anniversary. I'd like to take the kids to see it on the big screen because the only films they haven't seen on the big screen are Batman and Robin and the Nolan films. and then sailor didn't see the batman on the big screen but you know it'd be nice if they just kind of mix it up a little bit and then we came home and we did some more we watched um under the red hood and played some uno some batman uno and we made batman burgers we once again used our cookie cutters to make bat burgers and we made batman themed dinner so i also want to point out with our batman day is that even on like like they're really making batman day a bigger thing and i really hope that superman like they do that for superman day and push it because If you were to go into Hoopla from the library, it had a big thing for Batman Day and all the more recent Batman stuff. The top of it was, of course, Absolute, World's Finest, but it had Hush 2 Volume 1, the current Batman Volume 1, Daylight, Batman Gargoyle of Gotham, Year 1, you know, and they were pushing that. And then even Amazon had a thing like a link on their main page for Batman related stuff for Batman Day.

The Batman of Two Worlds was kind of neat, but it wasn't, I feel like, what it was advertised to be. Like, it wasn't a crossover. It was just two short Batman stories in one book, which is fine, but they really made it feel like it was going to be some big thing that it wasn't. Have you read it? No. No, I haven't read that one. It was all right. And then we got the poster for Nightfall Part 2, Night Quest, and the trailer, but not the release date. James.

That I was frustrated about. Yeah, I thought we were in the release date. I mean, why wouldn't all three pretty much be ready to go when the first one comes out? Why not? I mean, remember how they would drop the newest animated film and in that would be the sneak peek of the next animated film? Yes. I missed that. What did you think of the trailer? I mean, so from what I remember of the trailer, it's kind of what I...

expected really you know um when it comes to what the story is likely going to be um you know as bat we get the as bat suit um you know his escalation with into the claws and then uh it seems like the showdown is going to be between him and bane as well again so but we get glimpses at like two-face um you know we get to see dick grayson and the controversial choice to make jean paul valley the new batman But I mean, it was basically what I expected from what part two should be. So I'm interested to see, you know, some of the things that they held back out of the first part, you know, to kind of cut it down to like the week. And he gets, you know, a few days and then he gets taken out by Bane. The trailer starts like right away, right from the end. It was good. I mean, I'm excited. It's nice to have something. And, you know, part of me wants them to like, they're not really building the hype.

like release in a couple of months you know like we've heard the rumor like december we'll see part of me wishes almost like if it was a bigger deal like one a year you spread them out but i just don't feel like we as a society move that way anymore not that far apart. Um, and that's like, yeah, that would be something theatrical. You know what I mean? Like we need to be on that scale. And speaking of theatrical, I was talking with the kids cause we were watching a bunch of different films. Remember there for a while, how fathom events used to put the direct to video animated some of those Batman films in theaters. Yes. They do that for Batman day or something. And speaking of which, what was cool.

is when you went into the theater this time to see the movie, it had a Batman Day trailer. It was like, welcome for Batman Day with the symbol, the artwork, and it had a little game that you could try to figure out who the villain was. It had a trailer for all three movies that were in theaters for Batman Day. But the one part that kind of threw me, and I told you, is why didn't they plug the DC Comics app? like, join now for Batman Day and get, like, you know, a month free or a week free or something like... Oh, yeah, for real. Or 10% off for a year or something like... Yeah, that's ridiculous. I mean, they did those things where they put the, you know, for, like, Supergirl and everything, they were like, read the comic first. Join the DC app. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, read Woman of Tomorrow. I'm disappointed. The, uh...

uh the only question i really have for that nightfall part two is like bane's practically the hulk i mean i don't care what suit as bad as wearing you know what i mean unless it's like the hell bat suit like he's not taking down hulk bane yeah he is i know right it's gonna be ridiculous um the other thing that happened on batman day lego released the downloadable content for um what do you call it the expansion for the lego legacy the dark knight the the downloadable extended edition when they showed Harley's look, where it's more like the nurse from Arkham. Nice. That dropped, too, on Batman Day. We haven't downloaded it yet because I'm a little pissed because I'm really tired of all these games being hundreds of gigabytes. And then I have storage on my hard drive, but it says I don't have enough to download the updates and stuff. So I'm like, oh, I'm just stuck. I've got to delete stuff or whatever. We only have two games on our thing right now because they're just so huge and the hard drives are so small.

It's ridiculous. Yeah. I had to buy a two terabyte expansion card for my system. So yeah, that's on my to buy list. It's sitting in my cart.

so just have a couple more games available you know what i mean because you can't just spend like if you want to play a game and you have to wait half the day to download one before you can play it like just because it's in your library but you have to re-download the whole damn thing and that's the things i miss the days of putting games in and play about like playstation 4 is i had just a external hard drive and you can put your game on there and run it from the external hard drive and that's what we did you can't do that with playstation 5 but this isn't a video game podcast but speaking of video games Injustice 3 is currently being playtested. It's supposed to be the next thing coming up from NetherRound. Looks like we have more on that. There's been a leak that supposedly Supergirl is back, but Batwoman is going to be one of the playable characters this time. You and I talked about instead of doing Injustice 3, why not just take that same game mod and make it a KO and base it off the stuff that's going on now and get away from the Injustice story and everything and just make it a KO. It's still a fighting game. So that's going on.

I mean, you'd still have to come up with a story, though, because that's the main reason to play some of these fighting games beyond the competition is... like the cinematic nature of the story that goes in between the fights it's like watching a movie and just playing out the fighting parts but it's just like i think are people tired of the injustice storyline of the evil superman like the cage superman we're not talking about the comics because the comics are supposed to be like the prequel to the game and then we're not talking about the injustice movie we don't talk about that ever um and then you know you had the dual ending for um the injustice uh game depending on which way you chose so and i got it Let's see, other little things. Depending on one way you chose, you can go and read the Masters of the Universe versus Injustice. Yep, talk about that. So yeah, I'm happy if that's the game because I just would like to have a new DC game like that that's multiplayer and fun and not just the same, just one person.

we've said before give us give us an arkham style justice league game where you just you start off as one character then switch over or you know i don't know whatever just like there's so much you can do and don't give us the crap they gave us with suicide squad kills the justice league and then i got that because it was like super cheap so i just got that and i i really haven't gotten past like the tutorial level i mean i got past that i just haven't played into the game yet and uh um i heard somebody something like uh x-men legends uh where you know like you you with the four characters and kind of switching them. And I mean, there was a game years ago, a Justice League game similar to that where you got like two people and you got to switch in between them in different levels and stuff. And that was Justice League Heroes, I think. That was like the closest thing. But besides the Batman Arkham games, you know, almost every other DC character game out there is, you know, just mostly crap. And Superman Returns is probably the next best thing.

And that one sucks because it's not backwards compatible with Xbox One. Like, you have to have a 360. Because we tried that one on Solomon's Xbox One. But, all right, let's keep on trucking some news here. Next up, we got that they're doing a second season of the Crypto Saves the Day short cartoon series, and now they're adding Supergirl, Lobo, and the Justice Gang. So, that's cool-ish. I mean, they're fun little things, but, like...

They're just cutesy. They're fine. They're short. It'd be fun if they were part of some longer thing of different little shorts, but they're fine. That's cool. Keep it going. I was going to say, the couple that I'm most aware of is the one on Superman and the one on Supergirl on the special. Yeah. Like I said, go to the YouTube channel. There's a couple more on there. Okay.

let's see here. I got a couple of behind the scenes where they're filming the docu Grodd series and it's like an actor in a Grodd costume, like a gorilla costume. Now there's been speculation and things said that they're going to CGI touch it up or whatever, but I'm just kind of like, all right, whatever. I'll wait and see. Like, I'm not super excited about it. Like I really don't think it's that great of an idea for a show like Grodd without the flash and like this style of show. And didn't we have years and years hero shows without the hero?

I mean, yeah, like, Batman's never got, like, an official Batman series, you know? And it's like, this is one of those things, like, does anybody really want this? Like, this feels more like it would be something like you just did that you put on your streamer, like in little shorts, like news segments, or on YouTube, not like an actual, hey, we're building up a show. It's like a documentary show, so what does that even mean, you know? Yeah. Is it going to be like The Office, or is it going to be more like a regular documentary? I don't know. I mean, I'll watch it, you know, but...

It's nothing that's got me super excited. The other thing is, Neva Hal teases that Ma Kent has more scenes with Lois Lane in Man of Tomorrow. She says, I can say that I've got to spend more time with Rachel this time around as she is a lovely, lovely person. I greatly enjoy our time together on screen and off. Yay, Ma. So that's cool. I want to see that. And then, of course, we know that Jon Stewart is going to be in Man of Tomorrow, so we can just say, Jon, please leave Ma alone. It's important that you just let Ma be Ma.

All right, we good? We good, John? All right. I don't think Ma Kent is coming on to, I don't know, asking him to walk her out to her truck or anything. No, but he might be, you know, it's been a few years, he might be looking around. But anyways, take that as you will. So after suffering major box office disappointment, Supergirl is officially a huge hit streaming. Of course it is. You know, of course it is. It doesn't really surprise me because I feel like just, you know, from people I've talked to and attitudes and stuff, like...

people weren't sure about the theater it's much cheaper to watch at home so yeah people are just going to spend their money differently they're only going to go see the movies in the theaters that they want to go see in the theater it costs too much uh with gas prices to get there ticket prices and concession prices yeah it's in all that right there is easily a hundred dollars for the night yeah i mean if you if you're not like someone who's hardcore like me who uh tries to find the cheapest route, knows how the system works with rewards and timing and everything like that. If you're just like, Oh, we're going to go. Yeah. But that's not the general audience. That's not people. We have like the movie club memberships. We get those added bonuses and the rewards and stuff. Cause we're going to go see these movies. So yeah.

We know how it works the system. Most people just get tickets and go, and then you're like tickets, concession, and everything. Yeah, it's just the same environment anymore. It's not like every movie is going to make $600 million or more across a billion-dollar threshold. I think expectations need to be adjusted back to a few hundred million. Damn good mistake. Remember back in the day when the movie used to cost $20 million, and if it made $90 million in the box office, it was a huge success? Yeah.

like because it quadrupled the money that it that they spent on it so like and now now it's like every movie can't cost 200 million dollars and you expect to make an 800 million dollar uh return and if it doesn't crack a billion they call it a freaking flop you know what i mean like yeah and because it's like they learn the wrong lessons from and that brings me around to um this weekend was cincinnati comic expo And I did a panel on Supergirl, a hero for all. And we dove into Supergirl. It's just being a hero that everyone can look up to and how much she really does stand on her own and how the film had the opportunity to really help submit her as a character and break away from. But, you know, it didn't do that. We talked about the character, the character's history. And, you know, we talked about this as people ask questions and brought up, you know, the box office and how well the film did and how it didn't do. And it talked about just everything that you and I are discussing right now, you know, and.

I brought up just, you know, thoughts and concerns. And it was a really good group of people. And hopefully they're listening to this. Give them all a shout-out as they all took our card and hopefully we'll be listening. But the con was really a lot of fun. I saw you and the kids went Batman-themed, Red Hood, and Nightwing. Yep. Solomon went as a Red Hood. He threw his cosplay together. Salem made a quick Nightwing cosplay. So then I wore my Batman T-shirt just to kind of match them. So we kind of looked, you know, unified.

And what was great, so we were there, and we met Paul Dini, and he was an awesome person to talk to. And then we went to the Warner Brothers panel. Selah and I both got to ask questions, but Paul Dini was talking to her, and she wanted to get, she wanted to bring, she brought with her her Mad Love comic book coloring book to have him sign. um and the thing was like i told her i was like you know sometimes creators will sign stuff for free sometimes they charge like i don't know i've been and i've seen both um and you know he had a amount he was charging you know for signed stuff and and i kind of whisper to her like hey this is what's going down you know and we talked to him for a little bit about it she was telling him and she wanted me to show where she addressed up as harley to go play outside and the press passes that i had were all batman animated series themed again like they did a couple years ago they did that and the press passes were harley quinn

So he says, oh, I see you're wearing Harley. And he's like, yeah. He wrote to Selah from Paul and signed her press pass. And she has been cherishing that every day. It's hanging up in her room. And when we went to the panel, she waved and everything. It was just really awesome. He was really awesome to talk to. And then, so we did two days because Jania went with us when we did our panel.

You got to meet Ernie Hudson with my buddy Brian. That was awesome. Sayla got to meet Mindy Cohen, who voiced the best version of Velma of Scooby-Doo ever. She loved that. And, you know, we met some other people, got to meet a stuntman who worked on Swamp Thing and a bunch of Wes Craven films. And Sayla loved it because he got to be, he got to do, he was the stunt coordinator on the first Scream film. And he actually had to refilm the scene where Kenny dies. Spoiler for how old that movie is. And it's actually him in the ghost face suit. So kids thought that was rad.

You know, got to meet some other people, actors, celebrities there and stuff. Shout out, we got to, Solomon and I met and talked with Yuri Lowenthal. You know, most people hear that, they think now the Insomniac Spider-Man. That's what Solomon was excited about. Of course, James and I both know he was Superboy and Superman from the future in the Legion of Superheroes cartoon series. So I got to chat with him about that a little bit, which was nice. So I got to meet another Superman voice actor.

So it was a good, good con. I really enjoyed it. But I think the highlight was we got to have a really good kind of chat with Susan Heisenberg, who was Wonder Woman in Justice League. And Jania really enjoyed meeting and talking with her. Yeah, that sounds amazing. She was really sweet. And she's just as lovely in person as her voice portrayal of Wonder Woman is. So it was a really good con. And I really love the Cincinnati Con. It's my favorite convention to go to.

And the panel will be up on YouTube later. I just have to upload it. I haven't had a chance. And as we record here, I did just get a news blip. There is a new rumor spreading, take it with a grain of salt, that Viola Davis may appear as Amanda Waller in Man of Tomorrow, which would be awesome. She's great. We welcome her back with open arms. We all know this. Well, as long as, yeah, I mean, it sounds like if they're going to keep her around to do it, you know, and they're not going to do the Waller series, they got to bring her, you know, they got to fold that story in somehow. Yeah, I mean, it's in Creature Commandos and it's, you know, in Peacemaker, so might as well do something with it. Let's see here.

What else? I do have this. I wanted to save after I talked about this, but this is something cool. Everybody get there. Paul Dini is returning to the world of Batman the Animated Series for a new holiday special comic. This time, the Joker is getting the Ebenezer Scrooge treatment. The Joker Christmas Carol is a new one-shot comic where the Clown Prince of Crime on Christmas Eve is visited by three spectral figures.

Whether they can convince the Joker to change his ways or simply become the latest victim of his twisted humor remains to be seen. Dini is reunited with longtime Batman, the animated series collaborator, Kevin Altieri, who directed numerous episodes of the beloved animated series. The Christmas Carol arrives in print and on digital December 2nd. And the one drawing they show, it looks like it's Harley, the Phantasm, and Mr. Freeze as the three specters. And I asked Paul about that a little bit. He talked about being excited about doing that and it coming out. And I want to make sure it is coming to comic book stores. You know, it's not like anything. So he said it is.

I also got to meet Kevin Altieri. He was there and everything. And, you know, he directed many of the Batman series episodes. Because after the con, the kids and I came home. We turned on and watched On Leather Wings because they talked about that. And then they talked about a few other Harley episodes. So we were watching those. We're about to do a whole rewatch of the whole thing.

and Kevin also directed Mask of the Phantasm, so written by Paul Dini. And of course, I told Paul Dini how much I love Comfort and Joy, the Justice League episode. Fantastic episode. And how he wrote Superman of just this pure, almost innocent type, but without it feeling cheap or cheesy. And he was like, Superman believes in everyone, even Santa Claus, and Santa Claus believes in him. And I was like, it's perfect. So that was a nice little thing right there.

And yeah, and I even tried to kind of talk to Susan a little bit, find out if there was any news on a potential Injustice 3 from her as the voice of Wonder Woman. No confirmation. I was trying to see if I could find out, you know. See if you could weasel something out. Maybe even a wink. You know, it's like off the record. She just gives me a wink. Okay, I won't say nothing. I promise. But yeah, it was a great convention. I mean, got to see some other people and...

I loved it. And like I said, I'll be having the panel up as soon as I can get it up there. But that's all the pregame show we got for now. It's time to get into the nitty gritty about what we're here to talk about today. And this is interesting because this was something I came up with is Superman or sorry, it's Batman. I'm so Superman minded right now. Batman. It never goes away. Yeah, it never goes away.

is batman fan films now let me go pull up my notes here all you good listeners i there are a lot i tried to whittle it down based on just different statistics and just and we might end up picking this up in the future and doing another round yeah there were some that i wanted to watch that i didn't get a chance to um and i made a list and first and foremost uh my list i did point out waiting for my notes to load um i didn't do any bat in the sun productions like the super powered beatdown where it's like batman versus vader batman versus shredder i didn't want to do those um no justice league fan films had to be strictly batman uh no adult parodies or anything like that we're not going down that road here um and no ai so those were like my criteria and the ones that we did go over was the oath which was actually produced by a friend of the show that you guys maybe have heard case aiken he was on that batman year one or sorry batman beyond year one

Batman Dying is Easy, Batman Dawn of Fear, Batman Dead End, Batman City of Scars, Ripper, a Victorian fan film, Batman Terror of Arkham, Batman Heart of Full of Ice, and I can't remember the title, but it was the short David Howard Thornton as the Joker film. And those were the ones that we watched to discuss today. So we're going to start with just the order I have here with Batman The Oath. And I'm not ranking these or anything like that because they're just kind of discussion points for what we did and what we liked.

but I'm just gonna say it's been out on three and all these are available on YouTube. So it makes it even easier, but the oath is like a prequel type little to Batman 89, like hardcore. It's Batman 89. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's Batman 89 before the movie picks up. Cause they talk about Johnny gobs, you know, and it was Johnny gobs who was on the ground. Yeah. Yeah. And they talk about like, um, we see some of like the, Oh, like, Oh, what do you call it? Just gangsters and everything.

excuse me that we don't see in um 89 but like the suit style the costuming even the music and everything uh so it was interesting and I liked it it focused you know Batman a little rough in the quick fight scene but they you know they were trying to make it work with some quick cuts and Batman was just kind of in the background and it very much was focused on the um police officers yeah keeping that bat mystique up yeah and they they definitely utilize the the batman is is stronger you know he doesn't he doesn't need to waste as much energy to eliminate or to somebody yeah and um i liked it i recommend it's a fun little like it's that it's got that quality of that it's it's a higher quality they actually took some time to do it um that feels like a really good fan film so this is definitely a recommend the next one was batman beyond year one and this one is it's short and i think for a fan film i think when you push past 20 minutes i think you're starting to get into like sketchy territory because if you're not really good at what you're doing it drags and you start to feel like the story has to expand starts to feel cheesy and it's just i don't know i feel like once that one because some of these like it's like it's a fan film it's like 50 minutes to an hour and i'm like okay now you're like pushing trying to be a feature

you know and it just it just doesn't work because the story i mean a 30 to 40 minute fan film i feel is like like the a full length feature for a fan film you know what i'm yeah um like i said i think the sweet spot is 20 to 30 i think that's the best place to be right there for a good fan film um but batman so a few of these range though like batman year one batman beyond year one yep what did you think uh Well, I've seen this before. We got Ryan Potter. Here is Terry McGinnis, Beast Boy from Titans. Yep. He's here showing off some of his martial arts skill. He wanted to be, because of that reason, he wants to be a Robin too. Yeah. He's wanted to be a Robin. I think they could find someplace for him in the DCU, honestly.

but uh no the the production value in this one is that um you know they kept it nice and short uh i think he did a good job as terry i enjoyed some of the special effects and the fight against a couple of the the royal flush gang my only negative and i don't want to sound like a douche the batman beyond suit looked almost like they grabbed the cw's bat wing suit and just kind of did some repaints on it um the way the head sculpts and stuff was and It also like it just kind of bugged me that the story was pretty much kind of just almost like that episode of the animated series of Batman Beyond, where he's secretly with 10 and doesn't realize it. Yeah, yeah, that's exactly. I was like, and that's the first act of your of your episode. And then, you know, the next act is he's searching out. And in the third act, he finds out that she's.

part of the royal flesh gang so i just kind of reluctantly you know they had done something you know it's batman beyond year one but it's like cool but it's not even him becoming batman beyond just like so it was good i enjoyed it like i have nothing against it just i just feel like the suit it looked like it felt it looked like a cw show like if the cw was doing batman beyond and that's not a slight against it for a fan film that's damn good so yeah um batman dying is easy is a bat in the sun production but it is just a straight batman movie it's their second one they've done and this is probably the best quality high-tech one uh that they have um this one is fun because you get michael madsen in there as bullock um kevin porter is batman but doug jones is uh the riddler yeah and i'm pulling out where's all my notes on this because i have more extensive notes um casper van was uh the was commissioner gordon yeah i didn't realize that at first i was like holy cow yeah

uh i followed bat in the sun for quite some time um i've watched you know all of their superpower beatdowns um i used to even vote in some for that uh for it because it was fun i did you catch who hugo strange was because i looked at him and thought oh that's uh chris daughtry yes a huge batman fan we got mr freeze killer croc harley quinn poison ivy um and i'm pretty sure condiment king name drop uh both of the actresses and then um We even get Catwoman, but it's like a... Is it this one? Hold on. I want to make sure I'm not mixing it up with the other one. One of them had a post-credit scene with Catwoman. I'm not sure if it was this one or the other one. Might be the other one. But they're all actresses that you can look up on IMDb. They've been part of Bat in the Sun and been doing super power beatdowns in the past. They were playing Catwoman in there. She plays Wonder Woman in a super power beatdown.

There's another one in there. I forget who she played in this one, but she plays Black Canary in the Black Canary versus Black Widow. And then the director-writer played the Joker in this. Yes, Aaron Shonke. I forget how to pronounce her last name. I haven't watched this newest film, which is The Legend of the White Dragon.

uh yeah jdf's uh final film last thing he did because i actually because i worked on finishing that and putting it out i just haven't had a chance to watch i've been so busy all my free time has been wrapped up in this other things we talked about in the play i need to see if it's out for like streaming to buy or something it is it came out is it okay because i know that it had a limited theatrical release um and i wanted to go see it but i don't think it was i don't think it came out in a theater around here um yeah same here This film proves that you don't have to have action to have a really good Batman film, like a fan film, because it's a lot of drama, the discussion of what the plan is with the Joker. And I'm not going to spoil the story because I really think everyone should go and watch this. You can tell this was made with people who love it, who love the material, and are working towards bettering their craft as filmmakers. That's not a slight against anybody else, but they really show that they love what they do.

Well, Bat in the Sun has been around for a while, and I think that they've had a decent amount of sponsorships and crowdfunding and things like that to be able to get these things off the ground. They've definitely had a lot of practice in this. It's so great to watch from their little shorts to expanding more and more. I think we'll just go ahead and jump to Batman City of Scars. This is, like I said, another Bat in the Sun film, but it was done before. This one, I'm pretty sure, won awards. Yes.

And it's really good to watch. And it's cool to watch this one, then watch, what do you call it? Dying is Easy. Yeah, because it's the newer one. And you can just see how they've grown as a studio and as filmmakers and everything. Well, Aaron in the Superpower Beatdowns has played Nightwing and the Joker. And it's cool that when you can see a director who takes that much into their work, it's actually good. You know what I'm saying? Like compared to...

you know like sometimes oh i'm in it but they suck as an actor like he he really was amazing as the joker so um all right so let's see on that one now we're talking about batman donna fear um the costume for the for this looked you know off the rack they worked on um this one was one of those is too long because some of the scenes where he tried to play Bruce Wayne and stuff just fell a little flat, but I appreciate them. It was a fan film, so I'm not... I will say I liked that they went with Scarecrow and trying to do a Scarecrow story, but one of my biggest problems is Scarecrow's mask was horrible. Yeah.

I think they spread out their budget pretty evenly with the design and aesthetics of everybody. Nothing looked particularly great or particularly horrible, I guess, besides Scarecrow's Mask, but didn't even get to see that that much because it was all through hallucinated eyes and everything most of the time. He was always in a blur, it seemed like, anyways. yeah it just it had its moments like i almost could just like do the beginning and then cut to like the third act yeah of like the longest ones this probably will have them yeah um that were like over 40 50 minutes long batman dead end is like legendary because it was one of the earliest high quality fan films with batman and the suit looked just straight up alex frost tights out of a painting um And then we had the guy who played Boner from Growing Pains as the Joker. And then there's a nice little twist at the end of the movie. James, do you want to share with the listeners what the big twist is at the end of the movie?

You know, I'm kind of blanking on this one offhand. Oh, it's the one where at the end it's Batman fighting a predator and a xenomorph. Oh, oh, okay, yeah. Okay, yeah, that one. I did see that one. Yeah, that was actually... You threw some stuff at me and then I was like, wait, which one are we talking about? And no, yeah, dead end, yeah. Yeah, the xenomorph snatches Joker by the face and drags him off and you never see him again. And then a predator shows up. And then it's like Batman versus a whole bunch of predators after he is about to beat one down or kill one.

And you're just kind of like, oh, wow, did not see that coming. Yeah, no, I did not see that coming. I was like, as soon as it popped out, I was like, holy crap, was that an alien? And then an alien showed up, and then it was about to kill Batman, basically, and the Predator blasted its head off. And I was like, oh, no. I was like, I did not see this coming. I was like, that makes total sense. That's sweet. So, like I said, it's infamous for that ending. I mean, even without that ending, it's a high-quality film everyone should check out. It looks good.

this one the next one i just didn't like ripper victorian fan film um i like the way it started and how it's going but then i felt like you're just kind of doing a really poor man's version of gotham by gaslight When I was watching it, I was like, you're blending Gotham by Gaslight and From Hell together here. And the little twist at the end, I was like, that's okay. I mean, we didn't really see much of anything from Batman. Yeah, he didn't do anything. He was in shadow the entire time. He kind of just looked menacing from afar. Which is fine, I guess. It just kind of failed on all senses. I mean, if I felt we had a stronger, better protagonist, Batman kind of being in the back would be fine. What do you think of basically the Joker being Jack the Ripper? I think it worked.

it was cool and i mean that is one thing they were trying because he wasn't he wasn't the joker as we know him yeah so it was like okay you know um so yeah in the end i was like oh well that's that's kind of a cool twist just to make like because i mean i know that different scenarios i mean obviously in the movie gordon turns out to be the Ripper in there I just feel like this was this makes a little more sense in that regard as some sort of educated psycho you know from that time period not just a not just the crazy genius that Joker is, but you know, cause, cause back in that time, I think the Joker would have to be, if he was going to be crazy like that, like the crazy genius, I think he would have to be an educated person. I think that's kind of a cool twist. I think that it's all kind of there. It just really needs like a rewrite and a polish, you know, for a story first before going anywhere else. Right. But what they pulled off. Yeah. Yeah. I like, I like what they pulled off Batman terror of Arkham. This one, actually I didn't get to finish because I started it.

And I didn't get to finish it. And I forgot I didn't get to finish it. So I do apologize because things just got really busy. Did you watch that one? Can you talk to that one? We just save that for like next year.

Which one? Which one did you not finish? Terror of Arkham. Terror of Arkham? Okay. I did watch that whole thing. It was definitely long. I did make it through it. Sometimes I didn't want to. I thought they did a very creative way of using animation and special effects and paintings and whatnot to illustrate Gotham and Arkham Asylum, even the Batmobile driving around. So it was very aspirational.

And in that regard, I feel like that was, you know, I think they did a commendable job in that. And I think it was good, you know, watching it. And it is what it is when you get, you know, fan films. It's usually younger people, things like that. You know, you got skinny Batman and you got like little kid Gordon with a wig and a big mustache. That's just kind of what it looked like. But I watched the entire thing. And like I said, I liked.

That they put so much work into it to really make it. Like I said, it was very aspirational. And they utilized all their capabilities, I feel. You want to feel the love of the characters in the world in a fan film. Yeah, and I think they did that. Next, we'll just jump into the Howard Thornton Joker one. This one, it was dark and more gory than I expected. Because it's like...

brian and i had seen a uh clip of him doing the speech at a con of joker and his like joker voice and everything and it was really kind of cool and interesting so when this was announced i was really interested and then his makeup looked horrible very thick remind me kind of of like bizarro from the superboy tv series a little um and then like we actually see him disembow jason todd and i was like that's pretty intense um so i don't know like this one was dark and more serious and i'm not a fan of it Well, I mean, I love David Howard Thornton and what he can do. I was excited. I do agree that his makeup was extremely thick in that. And they did kind of say that it was going to be like a rated R, you know, kind of short film to represent his Joker. And I was like, yeah. And it lived up to it.

and the last one i have is was batman a heart full of ice i was actually kind of excited about this one did not like it i didn't know where the story was going sometimes um mr freeze was supposed to be like they kept trying to be like this was like mr freeze's intro i mean i appreciate don't get me wrong i appreciate they tried to bring in a lot more characters but i feel like they went way off on like the story that it's based on um you know the like kind of like how the gotham fear one like ends on a cliffhanger with cat woman where you're like wait what happened uh this one like It starts out and tells you it's a sequel to their version of the Red Hood fan film, which I did not know that until I got into watching it because I just saw a lot of people comments and stuff saying this was a great one. The director, Will Reed, also does the Joker in this. It actually has a very low INDB score, and these are all on INDB as well. We get a Calendar Man in this that doesn't look like a Calendar Man. The Bat suit is okay. He's got white eyes, facial hair. And I feel like they tried to do... Alfred is dead in this.

they try to give a whole thing about like Mr. Freeze actually kind of burning instead of like freezing. And they try to give us some Oracle and stuff too. And I appreciate they're trying to do, but I don't, I don't know. It just felt like I kind of lost the story and I wasn't as invested and hooked. Like I think sometimes it works better when you have less is more. Yeah. They definitely went with like, this is the only time we're going to get to make a band film. So we got to like throw everything at, you know, everything, including the kitchen sink in there. I did kind of like how there was a lot of, a lot of characters involved.

I do like that when they try that. I thought the Batsuit was fairly decent in this one compared to some of the others. You can see that's where they had put the majority of their money. It was the look of Batman and the look of Bruce Wayne. Some of the other things looked pretty cheap. I wish they would have focused a little bit more on...

what do you call it mr freeze yeah they i mean how many people did they have in there they had so many that's what i'm saying i felt like it was just like and here's this person uh so they even brought in talia and the court of owls yeah and that was like i was like wait a minute are they doing this because they have these people in white masks and then one's like all right okay i feel like okay if you're gonna do that you'd be better off chopping it up and making them like 10 minute little short films like almost you're doing your own series i think you i think if you were to do it position it that way you would it'd be much more interesting and more easily digestible and watchable and instead because then you're like oh cool it's this character this time and it's this this time and then that makes that cliffhanger more interesting then like oh here's this almost like hour-long um fan film with like every character thrown at it right there was a lot in it it wasn't too bad um but they're i mean they're fun like i don't think like we're bashing and hating but like they're fun i mean

there's definitely love i don't think so and there's tons of them online we're just trying to sort through which ones and it was like it was something different to do you know um then just like oh we're gonna read a comic we're gonna do this which are great because we did it anyways but like it's kind of fans telling the stories they want with these characters and what that would look like so yeah what any final thoughts or anything here legendary master jangle um you know i mean just fan films are I think they're an underappreciated art form. Is there a lot of passion involved in a lot of them? Absolutely. Do some not stack up well? Yeah. But I think in a lot of different genres, you've got a lot of different fan films. I've watched a number of...

you know, hero ones and horror ones, all kinds of stuff. And surprise, we're going to be doing the same type of episode in the future for Superman. No. So yeah, I think, I think it's just, I think they need to, I think they need to get their due. They're put out there for people to see. And I think some people should definitely take a look at them. You know, I don't think that everything has to have $150 million budget to be appreciated and to represent something good and a lot of passion from a group of people. Yes.

I agree. And just so everyone knows, we are not doing Supergirl fan films because if anyone knows of any really good ones, please send them to me. But every one that I found I'd start watching felt like a really cheesy about to be an adult movie, even though it wasn't. But it just kind of gave off this kind of real cheese sleaze kind of vibe. And I was like, I don't want to. I couldn't find it really felt like really strong stories. Now, there might be more out there. I have to keep searching through. But I'm just throwing that out there. If anyone finds one and says, hey, Tyler, this is a really good Supergirl fan film, I would definitely check it out. So.

it's it's kind of nice when you have like with batman and everything like they're they worked on like trying to make their own costume and do their own thing so many of the supergirl ones i found just like they you know got store off the rack halloween costumes so but all right this was our show man it's good to talk to you it's been a while like james and i um you know it's been a crazy busy month but we wanted to get some things in here closing out batman month i can't believe batman month is already over and we're going into october which is my favorite month of the year um mine as well so yeah and our next episode will be fun so stick around let us know drop us follow us on social media we're all over the place email us at krypton report pod at gmail.com you know krypton report pod where all your favorite podcasts are held and hosted let us know what you think if you have ideas thoughts please share with us we love hearing from you guys um it's it's really one of the best things ever is the conversation and like that was like the highlight of my panel was just having an open conversation with just different fans and i love it so
