Batman VS Two-Face (2017)

from Superhero Rewind · host Jaymes Logan

Watch the show live Monday nights at 8 central on YouTube! youtube.com/geekvolution "Batman VS Two-Face," (2017). Adam West, William Shatner. Directed by Rick Morales. Note: **SPOILERS** [I missed a point about the the rehabilitation theme. Both Batman and Dent are inconsistent about whether someone like McElroy (King Tut) is responsible for his crimes. Batman says he hopes the jury will be lenient on McElroy because it wasn't him, but Tut, who broke the law. During the trial, Dent says, "Tut is on trial here, not the professor." And yet, Dent proceeds to make sure McElroy is convicted, using the argument that he is indeed at fault because Tut uses his knowledge of Egyptology. Then, Batman says that "justice is served" when Dent wins. Even though he seemed to believe the opposite before the trial began. Dent is Batman's friend and he's supposed to be blinded by that, but I don't buy it to the extent that he ignores his morality, especially because no one should sympathize more with McElroy than Dent, after he was Two-Face. And Dent is conspiring with Two Face to save his reputation, which explains why he would act in a hypocritical fashion, but I don't understand why he contradicts himself like that in the court room. It's almost as if his line was supposed to go to Batman. Finally, at the end, Gordon says that Dent must pay for his crimes no matter what mental state he's in, and if Batman was consistent on that point, it might play like satire, where he's so black and white in his morality he'll serve "justice" even when it's unfair, but I can't tell if Batman should actually agree with that sentiment or not. This situation is different, because Dent actually had a choice not to go along with Two-Face, but he also went along with Tut's conviction, which he initially seemed to think was unfair. I said in the video that it's about when someone not in his right mind should be considered responsible for wrong behavior, but it doesn't explore that consistently, and if it's part of the joke, I don't get it.] Check out the complete ranked list of superhero movies reviewed on this podcast!
