Battle Mountain, NV - Cowboy Campfire Open Mic Night

Welcome the Battle Mountain, Nevada, still a hotbed of goldmining in West.  Needless to say, George is really excited and incredulous that this is not a much bigger town if they are still mining gold.  While the area served as a waypoint for western travel, it gained importance in 1866 when copper ore was discovered and mining began.  Gold was discovered in the area in 1912 and the focus eventually shifted primarily to gold mining.  Deemed the Armpit of America in 2001 by the Washington Post Sunday Magazine because of its "lack of character and charm, its pathetic assemblage of ghastly buildings and nasty people", it has embraced the title and started and annual "Festival in the Pit" which ultimately turn into a Bluegrass Festival.  Who could resist a trip to such a charming little town!  We hope you enjoy the visit.Small Town News--whose headline is it, anyway? @SmallTownNewsImprov
