Black Snow – For a youngster, one of the joys of winter is a good snowfall. However, I recall those winters with mixed emotions. Within a day or so after a snowfall, the snow would become heavily peppered with cinders and soot from the surrounding steel mills and the soft-coal-burning stoves that heated most of the homes.
