One of the co-founders and coordinators at the Sports Africa Conferences and the Electronic interdisciplinary Journal of African Sports, Impumelelo.  Gerard has a Master in Sports Administration and a PhD. in Media Arts Studies with a focus on Sports broadcasting and is currently lecturing at Hamad Bin Khalifa University here in Qatar.
