It was virtually impossible to participate in it without in some way being tainted by or complicit in it. As it was then, so it is now. There’s a good chance the rare earth materials used to make our phones, tablets, computers, and batteries for electric vehicles were produced in a way that contaminated the local environment by workers who were treated very poorly, some of whom were likely children. There’s a good chance some of our clothing came from a sweatshop. The gas that fuels our cars and the trucks that bring our goods to market- We’ll if you are reading this, you are likely familiar with the sins that have been and continue to be committed around the world in the name of cheap gas. I could go on. Even if we ourselves have personal never done anything to harm or exploit anyone- we are the beneficiaries of exploitation. None of our wealth is clean. All our money is dirty. So we have a special obligation to be faithful use whatever little money we ourselves have to make life a little better for someone who has even less than ourselves. I’m Horace McMillon.
