Be Justified by Trusting Jesus | John Piper

from Reformed Thinking · host Edison Wu

Deep Dive into All That Jesus Commanded by John Piper - Do the Will of My Father Who Is in Heaven - Be Justified by Trusting JesusTo enter the kingdom of heaven and inherit eternal life, external conformity to God's laws is not enough; a deeper, internal transformation and reliance on Jesus are required. Jesus taught that perfection is the non-negotiable standard, but human beings cannot achieve this through their own efforts or law-keeping alone, as all humans are inherently sinful. Even rigorous law-keepers like the scribes and Pharisees, or the wealthy man who claimed to have kept all the commandments, were found lacking in their hearts. The wealthy man's crucial deficiency, the "one thing" he lacked, was Jesus Himself. This meant that his deep attachment to possessions needed to be replaced by an attachment to Jesus, treasuring Him above all worldly wealth. Jesus is presented as "the treasure of heaven" and the only path to the perfection required for eternal life.Jesus provides this perfection in two interconnected ways. First, through justification: when individuals are connected with Jesus by faith, God "counts them as perfect because of Jesus," even though they are not inherently perfect. This means God "declares them righteous", much like a judge. Jesus's life and atoning death remove God's wrath and cancel sins, forming the foundation for this declaration. This is vividly illustrated by the tax collector who, humbly appealing for mercy, went home "justified", unlike the self-righteous Pharisee. Second, Jesus also transforms believers: by His presence and power within them, He progressively moves them toward actual perfection, which is finally obtained in heaven.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianhttps://buymeacoffee.com/edi2730

I'm a teacher, author, nature lover and for ten years I owned a coffeehouse cafe where my faith in the goodness of humans was restored every day. This podcast highlights the awesomeness of humanity - er...outside the warmongers, globalists, tyrants and politicians in general. You know, the rest of us weird, quirky and sometimes hilarious humans. We'll talk woo, probe mysteries and leave you thinking about something more interesting or entertaining or uplifting than your grocery list, or boss or that oil change your car needs. I talk too much because I can't help my Gemini moon and Leo Rising nature. I do a podcast because it's cheaper, funnier and more productive than therapy.
