In this teaching, we dive into the book of Ephesians to explore a command that seems simple on the surface but carries significant weight for the health of the local church body. In Ephesians 4:32, the Apostle Paul instructs believers to be kind and compassionate to one another. While the world often talks about random acts of kindness or simple politeness, the biblical definition goes much deeper. As we study the original language of this text, we discover that the word for “be” actually suggests a process of “becoming.” It is a call for every Christian to keep growing and progressing in a gracious spirit, regardless of where they are currently on their spiritual walk. Drawing from a Calvary Chapel perspective, we emphasize the importance of looking at the character of God as our primary example. The kindness Paul describes here is the same “easy” yoke Jesus spoke of and the same richness of God’s kindness mentioned in Romans 2. Furthermore, the word for compassion used in this verse is quite rare, historically linked to the healthy functioning of a body. When we are kind and compassionate, the Body of Christ functions exactly as God intended. This study offers practical ways to put these biblical principles into action. We discuss how to treat our time at church not just as a routine, but as an opportunity for “side quests” of obedience. This means actively looking for ways to put others first, welcoming new faces, and showing generosity to those around us. When we ask the Lord for opportunities to obey His Word, He is faithful to provide them. Whether you are part of a Calvary Chapel or are simply looking for a deeper understanding of Jesus and the Bible, we hope this video encourages you to reflect the goodness and patience of the Lord in your daily interactions. Join us as we learn what it means to live out the commands of Scripture in a way that allows the church to thrive in the love of God.
