Be Ready

“You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Luke 12:40 (ESV) One of my most difficult things in life is “time.” I think about when I would get to my doctor’s appointment just one minute before my appointment. I was worried that if I was late, I would have to pay the $50 charge for being late. I think about it when I am to meet a client for a meeting, and I just make it on time. I tend to forget that rush hour or lunch time rush could play a factor in my plans to get from point A to point B. Some use the excuse of “Indian time.” But if you really think about it, Indians were always on time when it came to gathering food, preparing for the seasons, and making sure that their communities had all their needs met. I am talking about back in the day. What I am driving at is that we need to process our time to ensure that we are not late for something very important . . . and we won’t have to regret the outcome. I am referring to our Lord’s return. If we continue to just sit back and not do anything to get ready, we might miss the gates closing on us, and Jesus will say, “Do I know you?” We need to be ready and to be on time when He comes. He will come unexpected and, if we are not ready for Him, we will be disappointed. We need to prepare ourselves for when He comes. We need to repent of our sins, accept Him as our Lord and Savior and follow Him all of the days of our lives. And when He comes, we will be ready and on time. It’s like the Native people who gather all their provisions for the winter and prepare for any hardship it brings.
