Be Who You Are | Colossians 3:1-17

Christians have died to old ways of being, and have been raised to new life. That new life is marked by an eager expectation of his second coming. But as we wait, we are to cultivate virtues that align with our new identity as “God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved”. -- As God’s chosen people, Christians are being renewed into the image of God. This progressive ‘sanctification’ is the process by which we become more like Christ - indeed - more like the people we were created to be. -- Paul calls the Colossians to a holy lifestyle, consistent with their new identity - to be who they truly are. In contrast to the old humanity (3:9), Christians are emulate the nature and character of Christ. -- Run, John, and work, the law commands. But gives me neither feet nor hands; But sweeter news the gospel brings, It bids me fly and lends me wings. - John Berridge -- "It would be nice, and fairly nearly true, to say that 'from that time forth Eustace was a different boy.' To be strictly accurate, he began to be a different boy. He had relapses. There were still many days when he could be very tiresome. But most of those I shall not notice. The cure had begun." - C. S.
