After another second-place finish at the Wyndham Championship, Trey Wingo revisits his conversation with Hossler about the highs and lows of life on the PGA Tour. We spoke with Beau last year about the mental grind of professional golf, the thin line between winning and finishing second, and how hard it is to keep perspective when the breakthrough still has not come. After Wyndham, that conversation feels as relevant as ever. Hossler first burst onto the golf scene as a 17-year-old amateur at the 2012 U.S. Open, where he became one of the youngest players to make the cut and even held the lead at one point. Years later, he has built a strong PGA Tour career with millions in earnings, dozens of top-25 finishes and multiple runner-up finishes — but he is still looking for that first win. In this conversation, Hossler opens up about how thin the line is between success and failure on the PGA Tour, why there are so many different ways to finish second, and why one week can still change everything. He also talks about separating self-worth from score, finding balance away from golf, playing at the University of Texas, watching Scottie Scheffler’s rise, the changing PGA Tour schedule, and building his coffee brand, Bo-Rista. From his teenage moment at Olympic Club to his years grinding on the PGA Tour, Beau Hossler’s story is a reminder of how hard it is to win in golf — and why coming close can be both encouraging and heartbreaking.
