Beauty for Ashes
from The Truth Church
Reverend Wodoslawsky preached from Isaiah 53, emphasizing that Christ's work extends beyond forgiveness of sins to bearing our griefs and carrying our sorrows (verse 4). He argued that while physical pain fades, a wounded spirit—from abuse, abandonment, or deep hurt—is unbearable alone. The sermon taught that just as Jesus took our iniquities, He also wants to lift the emotional and spiritual burdens we carry, often for years. He illustrated this through a story of a Vietnam veteran freed from 25 years of nightmares after baptism, and a man whose suicide was prevented by a woman's obedience to the Spirit. The preacher shared a personal testimony: after his daughter's wedding, overwhelming grief clung to him until, while worshiping in church, God supernaturally lifted it completely. He stressed that God can heal the brokenhearted (Luke 4:18) and exchange our ashes for beauty (Isaiah 61:3), but we must willingly let go. He noted that wounds are often layered, requiring time and prayer, but God's will is to remove them. The spiritual purpose was to call hearers to bring their griefs to the altar, hand over their 'bowl of ashes,' and trust Jesus to replace mourning with joy, heaviness with praise. Reverend Wodoslawsky concluded by affirming that God's vengeance is against the devil's work, and His primary mission is to heal the brokenhearted.
