Become Like a Child

from St Mark Sermons · host St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church

In this sermon, Fr. Paul Girguis reflects on Christ’s striking words: unless we are converted and become like little children, we cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The world teaches us to become more complicated, suspicious, independent, critical, and consumed with what is happening around us. Christ calls us in the opposite direction, back to the simplicity, humility, purity, trust, and innocence of a child. What have we allowed into our hearts through what we watch, hear, discuss, and believe? Have we become quicker to judge than to see the good in others? Fr. Paul challenges us to guard the doors of our hearts, close ourselves off from the corruption of the world, and allow the Holy Spirit to purify our vision so that we can see God and goodness again. “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”
