Bede Vs. The Living Dead Episode 14 - Rebirth (2020)... The Gender-Swapped Indie NOTLD Remake

Hey, everyone! Welcome to episode 14 of Bede Vs. The Living Dead. The podcast where your host Bede Jermyn explores the remakes, re-edits, reimaginings, homages, unofficial follow-ups and more to George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night Of The Living Dead across all media. After taking a detour in the past two episodes exporing versions of Night Of The Living Dead in radio, theatre and books, it's time to return to the realm of cinema and delve into another reinterpitation of the classic 1968 film. For this 14th episode of the podcast, your host Bede will be looking at the 2020 independent remake Rebirth from writer/director/star Roger Conners, which takes a very unique approach by gender-swapping the main character of "Barbara" to "Adam" and tackling LGBTIQA+ themes within its story. Joining Bede to discuss this version of Night Of The Living Dead are both returning guest Super Marcey (⁠co-host on the many podcasts on The Super Network with Bede and the host her own solo show ⁠After Dark With Super Marcey⁠) and first-time guest Tim Davis (co-host of the podcast Dummies Of Horror). Highlights in this one include Tim telling us about when he first saw the original NOTLD (plus, his controversial opinion on its sequel Dawn Of The Dead), what they thought of the change of "Barbara" to "Adam" in this version, how the film updates its themes for today, praise how the filmmakers achieved so much with the low budget, which two cast members stood out the most with their performances, the film's surprising amount of zombie nudity and so much more. For this one, Bede and his guests discuss an Australian take on NOTLD that you probably didn't know existed because it has barely been released: Cooma Little Theatre's 2019 remake of Night Of The Living Dead, which has a pretty interesting story behind it.
