Bede Vs. The Living Dead Episode 23 - Return Of The Living Dead: Part II (1988)... The Divisive Silly Sequel To The Cult Classic First Film

Hey, everyone! Welcome to episode 23 of Bede Vs. The Living Dead. The podcast where your host Bede Jermyn explores the remakes, re-edits, reimaginings, homages, unofficial follow-ups and more to George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night Of The Living Dead across all media. Even though we're only halfway through the Halloween season, a lot of exciting things have been happening over the past two weeks from the show. Besides releasing the previous main episode of the podcast, your host Bede has also dropped quite of a number of bonus interviews episodes in honour of the Night Of The Living Dead's 55th anniversary celebration throughout October. After tackling the 1985 cult classic The Return Of The Living Dead (itself an in-name only adapation of John A. Russo's 1978 NOTLD sequel novel) in the previous episode, Bede now takes a look at the film's 1988 divisive follow-up Return Of The Living Dead: Part II, which this time was written & director by Ken Wiederhorn (Shock Waves) and sees the return of the first film's stars James Karen & Thom Mathews in brand new roles. Joining Bede to discuss this more comical if polarising sequel are both returning guest Marcus Wilturner (writer/contributor for ⁠⁠The Super Network⁠⁠, who makes his 6th appearance on the show) and first-time guest Pat Torfe (who has worked for both Bloody-Disgusting and JoBlo). Highlights in this one include the first time Pat saw the original Night Of The Living Dead, what Bede, Marcus and Pat thought of Return Of The Living Dead: Part II, Bede goes into how the film is the first zombie film he ever saw, how this sequel is tonally different from the first film, Marcus & Pat discussed why the film doesn't work, wondering if this sequel works better more as a gate-way horror film for kids, debate whether Ken Wiederhorn should have directed the film since he's not a fan of horror and so much more.
