The Camino de Santiago, “The Way of Saint James,” is a pilgrimage route that runs through southern France and northern Spain. When my guest this week on Destination Unlimited, trekker, writer, and anthropologist Beebe Bahrami made her first full 500-mile hike on the Camino de Santiago, she learned that this “way” was more than a Christian pilgrimage. She discovered that beneath this 1,200-year-old pilgrimage road was a more ancient, pre-Christian initiatory path that could take one deeper into spiritual experience and consciousness and that images relating to the wild goose and sacred feminine marked the path of initiation.
