A war of words has officially erupted in the Big 12, pitting Texas Tech’s most influential booster against the conference’s aggressive commissioner. The beef began when Texas Tech Board of Regents Chairman and mega-booster Cody Campbell took to social media to blast reports that the Red Raiders' upcoming football matchup against Houston was being considered for a standalone Friday night broadcast window. Campbell, fiercely defending local culture, argued that high school football has absolute monopoly over Friday nights in the Lone Star State. He called the proposed schedule "absurd" and took a pointed jab at the commissioner, noting that while Brett Yormark is not a native Texan, he has been around long enough to know that "Friday Night Lights" are sacred. Yormark did not take the public call-out sitting down. Firing back, the commissioner made it abundantly clear that the booster does not run the conference. Yormark stated that the Big 12 board and athletic directors previously approved playing up to 12 games off of Saturdays to aggressively raise the viewership and profile of the league.
