A cast powers the world's best podcast. Here's a show that we record. When you picture the First World War, you probably think of Barb Wire, Artillery Fire, and Mud. What you probably don't think of?
Drag shows. Love letters passed between those in uniform. Queer lives hiding in plain sight. In our new series, we're looking at the stories that didn't make it into the official record.
Because they were too tender, too queer, or too dangerous to preserve. From Canadian soldiers performing in drag at the front. To forbidden love in the trenches. To nurses whose lifelong relationship was reduced to friendship.
History looked away, but we don't. We're in carbon and I'm Emily. And this is Lavender Rinks. Listen, wherever you get your podcast.
8Cast helps creators launch, grow, and monetize their podcast everywhere. 8Cast.com. Hello everybody and welcome into today's episode of the Top Cut UGL Podcast. My name is Sonny and I'm here recording with Caleb.
What's going on dude? Not too much at the moment. I heard that. Well, we are still doing remote recordings.
We are, um, it's a certain amount of being worried about Corona as a whole. And in a certain amount of my son's daycare shut down right now because of possible, uh, one of the kids has tested positive and we won't take no chances until my son is showing us symptoms and things like that. So, um, in the meantime, this either will be our last remote recording or maybe like one more. As long as there's no symptoms, anything like that, and my son for sure doesn't have it.
So, wait, wait, I mean, it's been how many days at this point? Um, today is five and he's still like no symptoms at all. Full go all the way. I mean, he's four away.
He's four away. It's true, true. So, I need to fall on him and as long as you don't react, you just get back up. Just see me, daddy and just keep running.
Pretty much. He is at that age where every time he falls, my wife will go and I'm just like, I look at him like you good. He's like, hey, look at me go. Yeah.
I'm like, all right. That's what I'm talking about. That's a boy. Oh man.
Yeah. Good son. I'm good. All right.
All right. Get back out. Let's go. That's it.
So we do have a little bit to talk about today. We have some pretty cool stuff. We have some cool stuff out here. Those are amazing.
The next podcast. Now the interview is a little weird. This episode today you'll hear the beginning part of the episode is me and Caleb with our normal episode with our normal breakdown and then the new and then the interview I did with Dylan last night, Caleb, the last time we got back, Caleb was already way a sleep. It was like 2 o'clock in the morning or something.
Crazily. So, I was not apart of that interview, which is, it's fine. We go ahead and record it. And we're just going to splice the interview in.
If that's okay with everybody listening, if you have a problem with it, good, you can get you some catchy sounds. I mean, I was just going to pretend like I was there the entire day and then what I would do is you be with him? I mean, I was just gonna pretend like it was there the entire time. Yeah, Kale comes at the end.
Wow, that's a great point. Yeah. All right. So first, uh, to start with, uh, we have some somber news as the shark, sex, cyber, strike has been pushed back from October 8th to the 15th.
Let's do it this point. I know, right. And the 2021 two division battles is in pushback from September 17th to October 1st. Problem with that.
And since also we can brothers or legend comes out. Also the day of. Yeah, same day that brothers and legend come out, which I'm pretty, which I think mom and pop stores are going to have issues with because they'll have to pick. I'm very sure that most of them will have to pick one of the other.
Right. Right. You know, you know, which is disappointing. Um, I mean, me personally, I would just pick the 10, but that's me personally.
I'm also a little biased for the 10 because I think the 10 is nicer. The thing is, I really don't know that you've like for sure have a choice here. Like, I think you just, even the scurrying. So I think both of them.
They're both so impactful brothers, a legend is getting into these new cards. And the 10 of the memories is you have to have it. It's so important. Yeah.
I mean, like just to the reprint three, the refrants that were aware of it are going to be major with the Nama unicorn, I can ask for an reprint as alternate arts in the chamber dragon, a reprint. No, that's all. That's all the gold series. Oh, it is gold.
I'm having a problem. I'm having a moment. I'm sorry. No, that's okay.
But the 10 of the 10 of my memories, I mean, realistically, we can expect the entire tribe rate archetype. We can expect to expect Zeus. We can expect ice dragons prison, triple dynamics talent for being droplet should all skis on. Uh, you could see the old Lich cards, but potentially you could see, um, what other, there's some other archetypes that were plenders.
You can see, uh, priorities are down there. Are these on the plunder deck? Oh, uh, oh, then they also did. They also did pretty much, uh, pretty much already take that pretty much the entire at-in-at-in this or decks will be in there.
Oh, and that's true. Yeah. So you all see, see adding nisters in there with either rarity upgrades or downgrades, depending. Exactly.
So yeah, like, yeah, I mean, both these products will be majorly, um, you know, a major products and always on the same day, which is unfortunate. Well, to be fair, there's a pretty good chance that the brothers of legend gets pushed back again. Oh, absolutely. I wouldn't be surprised that you just pushed it back to the next weekend.
Right. Just to spread them out a little bit. Yeah. And I'm like, you know, at this point, if they push it back literally just to give it a week, uh, spread out for at least a little bit.
I'd be perfectly fine with that at this point. Yeah. I don't know that they've ever had two major, major releases hitting on the same day like this. I don't think they have, but also, you know, because that's probably bad business by doing that.
Right. I'm not a business major. I'm not a hundred percent on that, but. Well, you're cutting into your own, um, that your own, like, like you, it's like you're cutting into your own sales, right?
It's like, it's the same reason that we don't release multiple podcasts on the same day or, you know, the same reason that a lot of youtubers don't release multiple YouTube videos on the same day because you're taking away from, you know, which you're already doing. Yeah, you're opening a Starbucks across the street from your own Starbucks. Okay. To be fair, that is a, that is a legitimate business practice.
Yes, because, yes, because we're going across the street, we probably have to go, you probably have to go down to three blocks. But even then, um, there was a study done about like the frequency of Starbucks and McDonald's and like, why sometimes they can be within like two blocks of each other. And like, they said that it actually makes financially like it makes sense for that to be like that. I don't know why quite exactly, but that that's what I saw a study of.
I thought that said something about that. Huh. Weird. Very.
So we have the entire B trooper support of the B trooper archetype. Yes. Beach, you're a scalabug. He was in fact not a singular card, even though as a singular card, he's pretty good.
Yeah. So we've had these actually for like a week or two now. Yeah. But it's, it's interesting that now we have the actual, um, we know all the cards and all the effects, but we've been waiting to do it because we just had so much other stuff to going on.
We've had interviews with people that's had some of the new stuff like that. And it's just like, we haven't had a good time to be able to sit down and do like 30 minutes of card previews and card descriptions. Yeah. And then, you know, just kind of talking about, you know, possible pathways that can be taken with these cards.
Right. So this is actually a real breakdown on the archetype. Oh, yeah. Speaking of that, I've been really shouldn't that I just kind of looked up like almost all the possible insects you can toss in.
Absolutely. Let's talk about this a little bit. So the first card that we have to talk about is obviously B trooper scalabug, which as it turns out, no cap is a really good card. So it's a little bit of a three wind insect type effect.
It's this just a reminder because we have, we have talked about this before. 1000 fact or under defense, you cannot special some monsters except insect monsters. Rough. If this card is normal or special summon, you can special summon one B trooper scalabug from your hand deck or graveyard and you can only use this effect once per turn.
So this is like an auto include three up because even if you have already used one and pulled out another from your deck, even if you topic the third one, you can still pull one actually graveyard and the locking unit insect monsters is not a big deal because obviously the whole deck is going to be nothing but insects. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah. If it's a one card into the into the feature for rank two, which we'll talk about in a minute. Um, right. Yeah.
I mean, on top of that, it can also get you into an sector of peak of millennia. Um, the who's a link to an sector card, but her entire ship is actually going to equip insects to other insects out of the deck. Right. Um, or you could even make the new shinobi insect hug a cream hug a car.
I can never say that. Haggu kuremino. Um, he was not great, but it's an option. Right.
Right. Or you can even overlay a link to into a kabillion and then on and then or cicada king. And then overlay on top of that, the digital bug rank five. Because you're like, yeah, I mean, it's all just more possibilities.
Oh, yeah. That's just off of B trooper scalabug. You buy himself. Yeah.
Let's see. Next up, we have V trooper scale bomber, a fire insect level three, 1200 attack, 2000 offense, really beefy actually for level three. Um, if an insect monster is normal or special, so I'm into your field, except in the damage step, you can spice some of this hard from your hand. When a monster, your opponent controls activates effect, quick effect, you contribute one insect monster to destroy it.
You only use the each effect of B trooper scale bomber once per turn. So first off, just based off of the base effect, it's a interrupt. Right. Just, you know, it's not just true.
It's a true, it's a true, not just itself. It is not, you could very well, you know, tribute off one of your other insects, particularly, uh, insect tokens, which is produced by a lot of action, a lot of insect cards. Yeah. Yeah.
That's possibilities. Also, it's an extended out of your hand when a insect monster is normal or special summon, which is awesome. Oh, yeah. So like you could very easily like normal, some beach or scalp drug bug effect, special one, and then scale bomber comes down.
Right. Right. Boom. That's an instant link link three into actually the only insect link three is a Sarah femme papillon who isn't terrible.
I don't think let me double check. Let's see, Sarah femme papillon. Let me see. Uh, two monster different names, 200 attacks reach counter on it.
Uh, it's link, some in place, counter on it for each insect use link material. Oh, here we go. Quick effect, remove counter special summon one level four lower insect from your graveyard. Pretty good.
Yeah. Uh, however, the issue is that you can't do the, uh, like you can't put the counters and then remove one of special summon immediately. You can only do one of the other per turn, which is annoying. Okay.
Yeah. Oh, well, but it's a possibility. So the next monster is beach or pristine lancer, which is a level seven wind insect effect monster, 2400 attack, 1800 defense during the main phase. Quick effect.
You can target one insect monster in your graveyard and one monster in your opponent's graveyard, especially from your hand. And if you do place the targeted monsters on the bottom of the decks, if this card is normal or special, something you can add one beach or spell trap from your deck to your hand. You can only use each effect of beach or stinglancer once per turn. Uh, so yeah, first off, uh, let's you occur one of your resources.
Like you could very well send back on your own, uh, scalbuggies. And then you still have another one hand. Absolutely. Oh, yeah.
Uh, another possibility. And then of course your opponent loses something out of their graveyard, which could be kind of a mess or it could be horrible for them depending on the deck. Well, the thing is it's a quick effect. That too.
So you can, if your opponent activates alpha tribute benton, you can, um, you can you activate this quick effect and you can shuffle the benton back into the deck and then we'll get to that. Exactly. That's just one possibility. It's like bro, except almost kind of better because instead of removing the card from play, it straight up shuffles it back into the deck against tribal leaders.
We've ruled. No, no, it doesn't shuffle it. It puts it on the bottom. Yeah, yes.
That's it. Yeah. Um, which is not necessarily better or worse than just shuffling it. Um, but it also eliminates the chance of them drawing that exact card.
Right. That's about it. It's more. It's not that much better.
Now, as far as the search for a beach, you were supposed to have a trap. Uh, right now we only go with one spell and one trap and they're both pretty good. We'll get into those in a little bit. Yeah.
So why don't we talk a little bit about the link to? Oh, yes. Be trooper, armor horn, uh, link to arrows or top and bottom points up and down. Uh, it's made with two, any two insects.
You cannot special monsters except insect monsters. Oh boy, how horrible is that? You can only use each of the following effects of each trooper, armor horn ones return during your main phase. You can, you can't immediately ask those sex results normal, some insect monster.
If this car is integrated or you can banish three other insects from your great guard, especially on this car, it's a banish and leaves the field. Huh. So first off, it's just a double summon. It is a hard effect, hard ones return, but it is a double summon for insects and it can occur itself once making, uh, link three and link four plays were diglessly easy with this dude.
Hey, um, not much to say about him. He's just, you know, just, it's just so, it's just so simple, but it, you know, it's really easy to see how you can easily use that into something great. Speaking of greats and link fours, you've got a giant bee trooper invincible at Lantis. Just Atlas.
Yes, Atlas, my bad. I'm used to calling him Atlantis. I don't know why. It's so funny.
Why does he's got a city on his back? That's got to be it. It's got to be the city on the back. Um, so it's a rank.
It's a rank four. Uh, it's arrows are top, bottom, bottom, left, bottom, right. Fantastic arrows, by the way. Um, yeah, that's why that's not blue arrows.
Yeah, exactly. Uh, it's made of two or more insect monsters. While this Link summon card is 3000 or less attack, it's base attacks 3000, by the way. Your opponent cannot start this card with card effects.
Also, cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects. Um, you cannot special monsters, insect monsters, you can attribute an insect monsters activate one of these effects, especially someone, a bee trooper monster from your deck or have him gain 2000 tack until the end of this turn. It's really good. Yeah, like, okay, first off, just upon somebody, he's already 3k can't be targeted or destroyed by your opponent's card effects, which is really good.
Also, only your opponent can't target it. You can. Or, and then he turns into either an extender or a game under. Exactly.
Now, granted, if you turn, granted, if you make him the 5k, beatstick, he loses his protections, but at that point, you're going for game. So, um, and also over and like, say, only part two insects. So if you get two link to insect monsters, you got them. Yeah.
Easy. Which, I mean, it's so easy to just crank out like a tribric and deck is the perfect example of this just being a playable engine, because if you look at Shurig, it's two plus dry beasts. So you can just make him like, you can just like power up into a rank three and then just with a month with an effect monster in a rank. I mean, a link three.
It's so easy. Oh, yeah. Something else you've heard will do is like make armor horn, right? Right.
And then make, uh, and then make the injector one effect to equip armor horn with it with a specific insect I'll talk about in a minute. And then you link them both off into invisible Atlantis and then the effect of equip insects special to new insects. He pulls out another bug droop, another bee trooper. You then immediately have a note and then you can immediately activate the effect of armor horn brings itself back, link for into a second, uh, invincible atlas.
Right. If you didn't activate the first armor horn to, uh, bring itself back, right. You know, and that's just me thinking off top of my head. It's got a lot of potential.
I mean, that's, that's all the monsters, but it's just, there's so much potential. And then there's other insect monsters that blend perfectly with this, but let's go do this though and then we'll do those. Okay. I have a long list, very long list.
Yeah, we've been talking about this for like over a week now, but, uh, the next part is beach group formation. It's a field spell card, which is amazing for the deck. Um, you can target one beach grouper monster in your graveyard, special summon, but it cannot attack this turn. Also, you lose life once equal to its original.
Oh, no, it cannot attack this turn. Also, you lose life once equal to its original attack. If a face up insect monster, you control is destroyed by battle or card effect. You can special someone one beach grouper token, love, which is an insect earth level 30,000.
You can only use each effect of beach group formation once per turn. So basically you activate it. And then once per turn, you can monster reborn any beach grouper monster from your graveyard, granted you lose life once you can do this. But that's fine.
Cause you can go either like for 10, the game, you can go to the link to you. You can go and you can go scout buggy and someone back in another scout buggy from your graveyard. It's so good. Oh, you know, pay a thousand, get two free scout buggies.
Yeah. Yeah. It's so good. Cause it's about scout buggies on normal or special summon.
So the card is if you already, it's not even a dead draw, like late in the game. Cause it's not even that it starts. It's an extender. So good.
It's a starter and an extender. No, it's definitely not a starter. Cause you have to already have a beach grouper in your graveyard to use it. Um, or you have to already be able to get a face up insect monster on the field.
Oh, yeah. Yeah. He's an extender and a starter. Yeah.
No, no, scout buggies absolutely both. But this specifically is a field spell is an extender. Oh, yeah. Really good one.
Uh, particularly if your face of insect, you can troll about card effects and get the token. You can use the token with scale bar to attribute off or link it off into one of the other ones. Right. And the invincible atlas and the armor horn, they don't require two insect effect monsters.
They just require two insect monsters. So you can use that token to link up into the invincible atlas or anything. Also, just noticed that this neck is to strip immune to the contact scene. Yeah.
Because they're all insects. Yeah, exactly. Uh, lastly, we have a counter trap. Oh, just a thought.
If you have beach or performance in your hand and another in any other insect in your hand, any other insect. And then if you have a scout buggy and grave, which that setup is not like impossible to conceive, right? Cause like, let's see, you have an insect in your hand and a scout buggy and grave. And then you just top deck the field spell.
You can activate the field spell, um, special to scout buggy from grave, uh, special a second scout buggy from your grave deck hand, wherever. Then you can link to into the armor horn. Then you can activate the armor horns effect to special to normal some in the second, um, the extra insect from your hand and. Cause like at that point, you haven't even rolled some yet.
Right. I mean, it potentially could let you just climb immediately into link four. Yeah. Well, yeah, but let's say for sake argument, you know, you know, some scout bug effect, some strike just for sake argument and the actual information special, especially about the beach group, scout bug effect, special up the new one, make armor horn, normal, some of your other insect monster.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah. I mean, it just, it lets the deck extend. So it's such a superior extender.
So good. Well, yeah. Anyway, so the counter trap beach or offline sting. Uh, when your opponent activates a monster effect, why control it?
Be true, be true, be true monster. Gate activation. If you do destroy it during the end phase, this person, your graveyard, and while you control it, insect monster with 3000 or more attack, you can banish an insect monster from your graveyard to reset beach or offline sting. You can only use one, one, one beep, one beach or offline sting effect for a turn and only once that turn.
Right. Um, so first off, this could stop. Okay. So let's say you said it pass comes back to you and you start going, I can stop your opponent's hand traps.
But you'll be kind of, you'll be kind of getting this loop to where you where it's only live on your turn or your opponent's turn, but not both. Unless you go, unless you like said it and go your entire next turn without activating it. Right. Which is kind of map, but the fact that it's an infinite, near infinitely recurring counter trap that negates any monster effect.
Pretty good. Um, I can see this easily being a one or two of two of them. I would say one because it's searchable with the stinglancer. Yeah.
I think that I think it would be a good one. Oh, yeah. Okay. So now as far as other cards for the deck, like I said, I have a long list.
First off, we have the entire battle wasp archetype. Oh, yeah. This is this is so easily as possible in the feature. Oh, absolutely.
Uh, because their entire shtick, uh, the battle wasp is flooding the field for hand with tuners and non-tuners and then synchronous, then synchronous, then synchronous, then synchronous, then synchronous, then synchronous, then you've got a little five, a little six, a little eight, and a little 12. Um, this deck can hit six and 12. No problem because, uh, uh, uh, let's see scale bomber and scalp bug, you're both almost six, both, both of them three, my bad for total of six. Uh, and the sting lines are all seven.
So they can actually hit level 10 off pretty easily as well. Yeah. Uh, let's see. Yeah.
So the entire battle wasps, uh, let's see, digital bug registrider. For second. That's what I'm pulling up. Okay.
Here we go. Uh, can I use this, exceed material for an exit summon, except of an insect monster? When you normal summon a level three insect monster, you can special this card from your hand. Then you can make both this card and that monster level five or seven.
So he just immediately turns any, uh, in terms of scalp buggy into a level, into a level five or seven, uh, uh, insect exceed, which is what the digital bugs are all about. Um, if this card is by someone from the hand, you can change the bow position, insect monster, control, uh, and then an exit monster that was some use in this car on the field of material, gain to thousand attack and events. The whole point is, um, you can special, uh, you can special start from your hand. Right.
And you don't have to make, uh, you don't have to do the magic level modulation. That's optional. So really, it's just another level three insect to send her out of hand. Let's see.
Next up is, uh, good old classic, uh, coke, mera beetle. Of course. One second, pulling them up during each of your insects to show this card, unless, uh, you send an iron core coke, like meru from your hand to graveyard or reveal an insect in your hand. Now, here's the point.
If a light or dark monster is much of someone in tact position, change the defense position. It's not as good as Draco, but it's a level four insect with 1900 attack, which is pretty big, um, that keeps your opponent from being able to declare an attack that time. That's the, the term they summon a light or a dark monster. Right.
Not the best, but not the best. You could be a tech card insert matchups like in the dragon, like match up. Exactly. Okay.
Let's see. Next one is residents insects. Um, if this card is sent from the fields to graveyard, you turn sent from fields to grave. Doesn't matter how you can add a level five or higher insect time monster from deck to hand.
If this card is vanishing, it's an insect time monster from deck to graveyard, except itself. So you make, uh, in sector, psychophilinia, the, um, the rank to the link to and her effect is that you can equip, uh, say you target one of your other insects and you equip with an insect monster from your deck. So you equip armor horn with resident insects, link for into Atlas, effective resident insects, it was sent from field to grave to search for, uh, search to your hand, um, the, uh, sting lands for the level seven. Hey.
So yeah, that's, that's just one of the things that can, uh, search, and you can also search, uh, actually, I don't think you can search with it. Well, you could search, uh, insect queen or metamorphites insect queen, but it's not that great. Primarily, it's just another way for you to search out the level seven. Yeah.
Yeah. But I mean, even having those ways to extend and search out other cards, I mean, it all helps. Yeah. And let's see.
Next up, we got the primitive butterfly, uh, level five, if you control the monster, you can smash on this card from your hand. That's all I care about. It's an insect that can you smash on your hand. Um, once we're turning, you can increase the level of all insect monsters, you currently controlled by one.
Again, it's just, and also it's a searchable target off of, uh, off of, uh, residents insect. So if your opponent nibs you, uh, with, uh, and then you get residents sex off, you can search for primitive butterflies, you can immediately smash summit and then just keep going. Interesting. Oh, yeah.
Well, you have any more? Oh, yeah. Um, there's, there's, uh, one other one I'll mention. Well, real quick, what metamorphites insect queen is really easy to make with, uh, is that cocooned volter evolution or?
Yes, cocooned volter evolution with, uh, either insect or picofilinia or, uh, parasite paranoid, so picofilinia you can equip, uh, something with the resident insect and then immediately use, um, uh, cocooned of ultra evolution to make, to pull out the ultimate insect, metamorphites insect queen, but also get the search off of resident insects. Right. Or you can use parasite paranoid equipment to your opponent's monster, it's now an insect and then cocooned of ultra evolution, that monster away and get your, uh, metamorph, metamorphosized insect. Right.
Um, multiplication of ants is another card that's very powerful in this deck. It's very old, very old. Um, we're talking about that was a weevil card. So you trim an insect and then you get two ant tokens.
So you can tribute a beach or token and get two and turn one token and two. Hmm. Oh yeah. Um, danger moth fans and possibility for this, uh, the good old classic pinch hopper is meh.
It's a thing, uh, verdant sanctuary final gesture. Make sure you run terraforming if you run that card. Exactly. Um, wait a minute.
You realize that that's not a field spell? Well, I learned sanctuary. Yeah. That sounds like one.
It is absolutely not a field spell. It sounds so much like a field spell though that there was an episode of the progression series where Gage ran to learn sanctuary and ran terraforming. And it wasn't a field spell and he got, he's still gets roasted for it to the station. Now anytime the card verdant sanctuary comes up, everybody says, Hey, don't forget about the few run verdant sanctuary run terraforming.
I didn't know that you got me. I also made this look like a week ago. Yeah, I haven't looked at the card since pretty much. Uh, so very interesting spell that when I face up insect monster, why battle card effects, not just any, just a face of insect monster, it's controller can add an insect monster with the same level as a Shory monster from the deck to their hand.
It's just more, you know, recurability. So I also went through to see if there were any institution targets that are insect. There is a grant. We're not ready for fusion targets on.
There's a grand total of one insect fusion. Okay. Quagar Hercules, who is a level six fusion. He is not an instant target fusion.
Uh, he's not an instant fusion target, instant target fusion, instant target, but he is a ready fusion target because he's all because that can get little sixes. He's a vanilla. Ace. Um, let's see other silly cards you can make.
You can actually make underground arachnid. Interesting. Oh, yeah. Uh, classic dark, uh, synchro from back in the day.
Yeah. Well, I think I'm about wraps up the beach over sword though. Oh, yeah. Like that's just some stuff I've gotten from literally just going onto the database itself and just typing in insects.
So just flipping through the pages. Right. Right. So, um, I think now we can go ahead and we're going to roll a quick ad break before we get into our interview with Dylan.
And then when we come back from the interview with Dylan, we're going to go ahead and wrap up the show. It's not good. Oh, yeah. Sounds like plan.
All right. Go ahead. Hey, everyone, and welcome in to this interview. Here we are here with Dylan from Team Dark Arm Feelings.
What up? Well, Dylan, why don't you tell us a little bit about what happened today. What you did today? Oh, we had the tournament in Shreveport at Steel Fox Games.
They had a Don't Imagine See sneak peek slash returned to organized play trophy tournament. Right. Really want to watch trophies lost on top eight. You did better than I did, but, um, you was going to time them.
Perfect. So we wanted to take a few minutes to talk with Dylan about today's tournament. Um, Caleb was not able to make it to the tournament today. So this is just me and Dylan talking.
We got back very, very late recording right after the tournament. I forget back like one o'clock in the morning. And, uh, so it would just be me and Dylan on this interview, but I did want to take and try to get our thoughts as fresh as possible. That was the reason I wanted to record tonight.
So the total tournament was six rounds of Swiss and then cut to top eight. OK. And then first, second and third, each get sneak peek play mats as well as a that returned organized play trophy. Yep.
So we joined in with a little bit of a little bit of philosophies. I went in with the ZUDA driver day, a list similar to Rafael in Evan's list from the YCS, but with my own little text here and there. And you went in with what? I went with Drytron.
Um, I think it's a mistake. I don't know. Not everybody thinks that doing that. But I think it's a mistake.
I think you're wrong, but that's OK. That's OK. The results today would say that I am wrong. I think top eight today, I don't have exact numbers, but I know there was three drytron.
Um, I know. Was there any driver game? Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. There was, I think two driver game. I think it was three drytron, two driver game, one prank is one fan. It's three drytron, two driver game.
OK, so one fan, some nice one prank, either one or two prank kids. Yeah. Um, yeah, the fan likes like a fan night sky got me right in Swiss, right? Yeah, it's was OK.
So you say lots of fan nice and Swiss and then your top cut. You went to the top eight and what happened there? Just top eight. Yeah, you lost in top eight.
Yeah, I lost in top eight two prank kids. Game one, he had it in game two. Um, I actually just really punted that game hard. I don't know why, but I had it open up like perfect.
It's a fusion, pot of prosperity and one drytron name, right. And I proceed to pot before I activate. It's a fusion. So, yeah, it was just a fusion.
I think that's there literally to be a Yeah, I'm literally to call my grave doesn't use it. So that happens. You know what though it happens to the best of us? At least your day was a whole heck of a lot better than mine.
Yeah, I'm still getting half a box. So yeah, there you go. Um, I did not do as well. Uh, I won round one of his prank kids and then proceeded to get stomped on for the rest of the day.
Uh, I lost his to drytron, which I ended up getting second overall. So I'm so bad about that one. I had a really bad misplay that maybe changes the outcome of that game. But you live and you learn it.
Just you move on from it. Uh, round three, I lost a plunder patrol of all things. I had no idea what was going on. I'll play the dude last weekend at the tournament.
You play him today. Yeah, I'll play the tournament. But since I played at the tournament wrestling, he, he wasn't getting me at all this time. Right.
I know what that did and I learned, but I still got it then too. Yeah, but on top of that, I also prayed. Oh, I know. I didn't have a starter game one and we had a 20 minute game one.
I mean, dude, the reason he won one game last weekend for me was because he opened anti spell a rivalry and I was like, all right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
I cannot play. Yeah, it was pretty rough. I mean, I literally opened no, no hand traps or interruptions and no start. It was like, I was going second and I opened like IO called by one Nerval, a strike, you know, like just cards that are great when you go first.
Yeah. But realistically, I didn't have a whole much of a shot there. Uh, round four, I played against Dragon. Like I tied, um, which I don't know.
I feel like blames the share on both sides there. I beat him game one pretty handedly pretty, I said pretty quickly, about 15 minutes, but 25 minutes left on clock going into game two and we kind of went to a grind game. And then all of a sudden it was like everything just slowed down significantly. I was trying to play a good pace, but it just seemed like every time I looked over at the clock, you're like three more minutes or on, four more minutes or on, you know, and then I'm ahead and life by 600 heading into the final turn.
And I get my, I get turned back with like a minute left and there's just not really a good way for me to advance the game state. And then like he starts doing a couple of things on my turn with the right seal bounces and summons. I'm trying to ask him what's going on. He's like rushing me all of a sudden because it's my turn.
He wants, he wants to get to my turn, but that way he wants to get back to his turn. That way he can do six hundred more damage. Yeah, it was a crazy thing for me actually. That's like, I have, I personally have really bad anxiety.
Right. So I was playing to the family guy and you know, he's a cool guy. I'm not trying to say against him, but you know, um, when somebody rushes, you know, it's stuff, it really puts the nails on like, well, no, it's like, you know, the thing was, it's like, what am I? It was more of, we were at 31 minutes when he told me to hurry up.
And it's like, bro, I took five minutes on my turn. You took four minutes on your turn. You have a jaguna anti spell up. I'm trying to figure out a play through this.
Right. You know, yeah. Yeah. And just put the tell on for me a little bit, not because I was angry at him, but she was, I had my anxiety started to came on and started spirals.
So right. Yeah. I start, I do, somebody starts like, come on, come on, like literally saying, come on, let's come on, but come on, hard to do your turn. Like that, it puts it really tight.
It's just originally really cranks up the anxiety. That was the only time today that I felt actually anxious. Normally I get pretty bad tournament anxiety, but I will say the one big improvement today to comfort that it was, I was able to sit down at table one for the first time since I've ever started playing UGO. I think this is the most competitive I've ever been in the game.
But to sit down at table one today, I mean, I, at my first round and just go shuffling and playing, talking about my opponent and go to start my turn. And my hands were not physically shaking, which might sound kind of wild to like some people listening. Like if you're really competitive and you go to like a lot of events, I think just to say, I don't want to cut you off. No, but that's a very common thing.
Like people like starting out going to terms like this, I promise you, if they say it out, they were just a little bit, I promise you, right. They were just a little bit nervous. Yeah. It's, it's crazy for me to think like how much more comfortable I've got in playing the game.
So that was round four, round five, I played against strikers. I beat him in game one and he was like, honestly, dude, I just tried to drop last round and they didn't drop me. So they said, do you want to, he's like, I'm just gonna sign a match lip and you got it. And it was just true.
So I was just trading and wait, all right. I like trading. That's, that's cool. This one dude.
Last round I played against paleo frog for both two, two, one game one. I opened ghost bell or I'll say like this, droplet, ghost bell, droplet, solid strike, droplet, three droplet against paleo frog. And I was going first. So in my opinion, droplet sounds pretty good against paleo frog, not in triplicate with no starters, because you could shave lot every single one day traps.
That's true. That's true. The problem is they have to have monsters on board. That's true.
So they have to have the monsters first. Right. Yeah. And when you're going first, what do I do?
And then it goes second and it's like, OK, I feel like I side it adequately here. Yeah. I open Ash, Ash, in perm, Harpy's feather duster, nervous. He goes first.
The first thing he does, no, he goes second. I literally just set in perm pass. I'm like, well, I decided to dust her for the crack back. He's playing paleo frog.
He's like, you know, like set five. You know what I do? I activate numero on network, numero on calling. Make, make three of the 1000 guys hit you for 3k going to mega clops.
How do I have to have a zodiac and handout mega clops? Yeah. Literally the only thing I can do. I did not win that match.
Don't expect you to. That's why. Yeah, it was bad. Excuse me.
So what are your takeaways from this tournament? Because I know that we had different experiences, but I do know that we probably have some similar takeaways because we're still playing the same book. I can tell you one. Look, I know everybody likes to go outside after their rounds.
I vape. I vape. So, but do they smoke in cigarettes? I stand near them again, bro, because I can't get the smell out my nose.
But seriously, you have to find out where to stand. Just stand up. You gotta like just not go with that group and just move. Yeah, just stand at the next talk to you inside.
Yeah. Yeah. But now I think there's that group or like two groups, every locals, every round. They go outside and I catch you there, a cigarette or they vape or something like every locals.
Yeah, but no one serious no, though. I think my biggest takeaway was how open the format really is. Absolutely. But you know what?
I don't know that's entirely true because I really think that we're in a place where a lot of different decks can compete. And I think as long as the master rules are set up the way they are, that will mostly be true unless there's no covering deck. But in this exact format, I think there's three decks that are just far and away. The best decks, they're all three tier one and everything after that is tier two.
But the thing is right now it's here to a still playable and competitive. Well, we start with my sniffling right now. You know, it's allergy season. Yeah, though it's been destroying me.
It's all right. If those that don't know, we're in Louisiana. We're not in a place where like there's no allergens or anything in the air. Like all we have is just non-stop trees and stuff.
Pollen everywhere. If you walk outside in your car, then like under a tree for a little bit and just covered in yellow. Yeah. Cars is like like up north people just deal with snow for months out of the year.
We deal with nine months of pollen in here. So, but I do think that there's three decks that are just better right now. I think that's dry-tron, uh, tribe brigade and prank kids. And I don't really know that you can debate it.
Yeah, no, it's those are obviously the top three. Um, unfortunately, there isn't a control deck to take over the prank kids spot right now. Like I said before, I personally think dry-tron just best. That has the biggest advantage engine.
This deck goes plus five on first turn. Right. It's ridiculous. I can do everything again next turn.
Right. The issue to me with dry-tron is, you and I talk about this extensively, but the dry-tron's issues are not even a hundred percent the deck itself. Dry-tron's issues a lot of times are, uh, sure, the deck has a certain amount of brickiness to it, which I think a lot of that can be alleviated in deck building, especially when you're looking at a deck where we just recorded your deck profile and I just happened to remember the numbers. You're running a 42 car main deck in that main deck.
You're running basically 17 names because you're running 11 dry-tron monsters. You're running three Nova three emergency and then you're running three prosperity to help you find dig for more. That's essentially 20 out of 42 cards that are names are digging for names. Whereas you have other people that are not running prosperity's and oh, they're going to cut a couple of names out here and there and, you know, maybe cut down this guard that guard so I fit in a drooping backage and they're just not playing optimal build of the deck.
I think if you're playing an optimal build of the dry-tron deck, that's your first fix. That's how you fix the brickiness. Yeah, it's just harder because you don't have like people don't like to, you know, you know, I'm going to cut you off. I'm not going to cut you off.
It's your thing. It's just like I said, the deck profile is like, dude, there's no reason to plan for a losing game set. You're literally putting, they're putting your good engine in there because they get drilled and it's like, but what if they don't drill you and now you've now you true a red eyes in your hand and now you're going to make a jaguna set of masa raina and the herald of the ultimate. This is already a discard negate anything plus special something to get special.
So it's also right and it's like, well, that's kind of redundant. It doesn't really make sense. It loses the same thing. At least we're going to the boards more versatile, you know, right, right.
So that's the first thing is the deck building. You can solve some of the issues with the deck and the deck building process. The second issue with the deck comes in with the sideboard against the deck. So Nibiru's, which I know you say Nibiru's not an issue because the good drive-drawn players play around Nibiru, but that's the third issue we're going to get there along.
Maybe who does hit the deck if you know where to go. If the deck is already in an awkward position or something like a drill, Nibiru can be brutal. Majority of my hands. Yeah.
So it's got to be combined with something I completely agree with that specifically. If it's combined with something, yes, it can be brutal. But like a majority of my hands, I can do orange light, even I can literally just search that big end of a combo. Right.
Just do my combo, still. Right. Right. And just have the orange light, Eva or orange light, whatever fairy I drew.
Right. So, but the bigger problem cards draw, right? So it depends. You can play around.
I actually only got drilled once today. I got to draw twice. I got to draw twice. No wonder you got Tommy.
