“Before the Day Was Done” Verse 1 He counted change in a coffee can Folded bills with calloused hands Skipped a lunch, worked overtime Dreamed about her smile at night He stood beneath those jewelry lights Heart wide open, hope held tight Just a simple band, one small stone All the love his hands had known Pre-Chorus 1 On the drive home the sky looked new Every song was speaking truth He couldn’t wait to see her eyes Shining like that diamond’s light Chorus 1 She said she loved it, held him close Said it meant the world the most He felt ten feet tall inside Like he’d finally done it right But before the day was done Before the moon replaced the sun She whispered, “There’s a bigger one…” And something in him came undone Verse 2 The house was dark, her breathing slow He stared at shadows on the wall The ring still sparkling on her hand But it felt smaller than before It wasn’t gold that lost its shine It was the moment, fragile, fine How fast a heart can drift away From thank you to someday Pre-Chorus 2 He never said a single word But silence carries what it hurts When love is measured by what’s next Even giving feels like less Chorus 2 She said she loved it, that was true But love kept reaching for something new He gave his best, his everything Still it wasn’t quite the dream Before the night had fully begun Before the thrill had even run The gift became a stepping stone And he had never felt so alone Bridge   And it hit him like a mirror In the quiet of that room How many times had he done the same Chasing what was coming soon? Breath in his lungs, food on the table Mercy waking him each day Hands that held him through the storms He’d barely stopped to say How many mornings did he rise And look past grace toward bigger skies? How often had his own heart said, “There must be more ahead”?
