Before You Hire a McKenzie Friend: The Truth About Experience, Reviews & Find a McKenzie Friend

from Family Court Mastery with Jason Appleyard (England&Wales) · host the_Applewotzit

Not all McKenzie Friends are created equal — and when you're representing yourself in the Family Court, choosing the wrong person can cost you far more than money. In this video, I explain what litigants in person should actually look for when choosing a McKenzie Friend, why words like “experienced” can be meaningless without evidence behind them, and why reviews, directory listings and impressive-looking profiles should never replace proper due diligence. I also explain my own history with Find a McKenzie Friend, why I chose to remove myself from the platform, what happened afterwards, and why I believe consumers need to ask much harder questions about who is being promoted, how experience is verified, how reviews are presented, and who controls the information you are relying on. And yes — I also explain why I believe I'm very fucking good at what I do. But I don't expect you to take my word for it. Ask me questions. Challenge me. Check my experience. Look at the work. Look at the knowledge. Look at whether I can explain your case in a way that actually makes sense. Because if you're dealing with child arrangements, domestic abuse allegations, fact-finding hearings, Cafcass, Section 7 reports or a difficult ex-partner, you do not need somebody who simply sounds confident. You need somebody who understands the process, understands the evidence, understands strategy — and is prepared to tell you when you're getting it wrong as well. This video covers: • What a McKenzie Friend can and cannot do • Why “experienced” needs to be quantified • What to look for in reviews • Why independent reviews matter • The danger of relying on directory profiles • Questions to ask before paying anyone • Red flags when choosing support • Why honesty and accountability matter more than empty promises Family Court is difficult enough without hiring someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Do your homework. Ask difficult questions. And don't confuse marketing with competence. #McKenzieFriend #FamilyCourt #LitigantInPerson #FamilyLaw #FathersRights #Cafcass #ChildArrangements #FamilyCourtUK
