Beginner’s Mind vs. the Engineers: The Non-Coder Rewiring Mental Health with AI
from AGI - Advance, Grow, Innovate with AI · host AGI Podcasters
EPISODE DESCRIPTION"In the beginner's mind the possibilities are limitless. In the expert's mind they are finite." Jason opens his new show with Suzuki Roshi because his first guest is the argument made flesh. Bill Mrklas has spent 26 years at BrainMaster Technologies, an Ohio manufacturer of EEG neurofeedback equipment that retrains brains struggling with anxiety, trauma, and autism instead of masking symptoms with medication. He is the sales and marketing guy. He had never typed a line of code, and a year ago couldn't have told you what a terminal was.Working with Claude and Claude Code, Bill specced and built a brain-training game from nothing: breath pacer, live EEG input over a WebSocket and Python bridge, visuals that respond to a patient's actual brainwaves. Core prototype in an afternoon, polished build in about 35 hours, in an industry where simpler games once consumed entire teams for months. His founder, a Bell Labs veteran who had dismissed AI as junk, kept asking who really coded it. Four months after meeting Claude himself, that founder built an encrypted remote neurofeedback platform he priced at ten engineers, one year, and seven figures. The heart of the episode is the fight the title promises. Bill's case: engineers build what someone else imagined, and now the person doing the imagining can build directly, so the creative mind finally has an engineering sidekick. Jason pushes on where experts still matter, what this new talent pool of orchestrators is worth to a business, and what happens to therapy when a sales VP can pair EMDR-style stimulation with electrochromic glasses so an autistic kid can do brain training on the floor playing Legos instead of strapped to a computer. Also in the mix: Ohio's data center fight and the 2 a.m. scolding from Claude that named Wooden Boy Industries.THE BUILDER'S TOOLKITClaude + Claude Code in VS Code for spec documents, phase plans, and the buildA second Claude instance running as a standing advisorWebSocket + Python bridge connecting EEG hardware to the gameClaude Design for planning, then translating specs to coding agentsCodex, Cowork, and ChatGPT voice mode for background workGUEST LINKSBill Mrklas on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/william-mrklas-l-m-t-2817134/BrainMaster Technologies: https://brainmaster.com/TIME STAMPS00:00 - A new show and a first guest04:20 - The Vegas seminar that changed Bill's career08:00 - The Bell Labs founder who asked "who coded it for you?"10:16 - Jason's November turning point with Claude Code15:55 - The undiscovered talent pool of AI orchestrators19:18 - Using Claude Design as a liaison between agents22:10 - Demo: a neurofeedback game built from scratch28:41 - Electrochromic glasses and autism therapy33:20 - Ohio, MAICON, and the data center fight40:53 - The AI leaders nobody knows47:54 - Bill's son at Florida Tech, where AI use is expected51:40 - AI turns reporters into editors59:35 - Brand becomes a vibe, not a hex code1:08:00 - The hallway pictures that became a 3D room app1:13:50 - The Wooden Boy origin storyCONNECT WITH JASON PADGETTJason PadgettAI Solutions Architect | Co-Founder, Wooden Boy Industries | Host, AGI Podcast | AI Adoption, LLM Systems & Human-AI WorkflowsAGI - Advance Grow and Innovate with AI Podcast Network🌐 https://schoolsout.agipodcast.ai/CoFounder, Wooden Boy Industries🌐 https://woodenboyindustriesai.com/Chief Solutions Architect, Chakra AI Solutions🌐 https://chakrasolutions.ai/📧 [email protected] PODCAST NETWORKSchool's Out Saturdays: https://schoolsout.agipodcast.ai/No-Code CAIO Newsletter: https://schoolsout.agipodcast.ai/newsletter/RESOURCES MENTIONEDMoonshots with Peter Diamandis, featuring Alex Wissner-GrossEmpire of AI by Karen Hao (2025)Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu SuzukiMAICON, the Marketing AI Conference, Cleveland
