Beginnings
from Limericks For Lear · host Paul Ajosshi
Beginnings I read in the Guardian newspaper about the 2012 bicentenary of the great nonsense poet Edward Lear and how we may well forget him in our rush to celebrate two hundred years of Charles Dickens. So I’ve decided to pay tribute to Lear through Limericks - one for each day of the year to come. Written by my own fair hand and with no apologies for poor rhyme, reason or taste. Along the way I’d love for you to introduce me to limericks of your own, limericks you love, limericks you hate and limericks that you find down the side of the sofa when you you’re doing the hoovering. Send them to me (with credit where credit is due) and I’ll share them for all the world and his dog to see. As we crawl our way into next year, Raise a glass, make a toast, give a cheer. That Victorian gent! His poetical bent! The silly old dear, Edward Lear!
