Today, Britain and Logan take you through an exclusive look at how our state-of-the-art coffee pod machine works, sharing updates on our team, recent trips, and the exciting developments happening at Coffee Beanery. We’ve had an incredibly busy week, from celebrating Logan’s birthday to dealing with unexpected staff injuries. But despite the challenges, we’re excited to share something fun and informative with you: a deep dive into how our coffee pod machine works! Meet Our Coffee Pod Machine: Let’s get into the real star of today’s episode — our coffee pod machine. We’ve been producing more pods in the last nine months than we have in the previous four years combined, and it’s all thanks to this amazing machine. We thought it would be fun to give you all a detailed walk-through of how the machine operates and the cool features that make it so efficient. Step 1: Dropping the Cups The process starts with the cups. The machine is designed to drop each cup one at a time into the holder, ensuring that everything is perfectly aligned. With four slots available, we can run multiple flavors at once, though we typically operate two lanes to keep things smooth and efficient. The cup-dispensing mechanism is carefully crafted to prevent double drops — it’s practically foolproof! Step 2: Quality Check Next comes the quality control. The machine presses each cup to ensure the filter is properly fused to the cup. This is a major improvement from our older machine, which didn’t have this automated check. Now, if the machine detects a problem, it will automatically kick the defective cup out, preventing any issues down the line. Step 3: Filling with Coffee The coffee grounds are fed through an auger system that doses the perfect amount into each cup. The machine can hold enough coffee for large batches, and we have to make sure it’s constantly topped up to keep things running smoothly. Once the grounds are in, they get lightly tamped down to ensure an even brew. Step 4: Flavoring the Coffee Here’s where the magic happens: flavoring! Each lane of the machine is equipped with individual pumps that allow us to add precise amounts of flavoring to each cup. Whether we’re making our seasonal Pumpkin Spice or a classic like Hazelnut, the machine makes sure the flavors are perfectly balanced. Each flavor has its own tube, so there’s no cross-contamination, and we can run up to four different flavors at a time. Step 5: Applying the Lid The machine places a foil lid on each cup using suction cups that grab the lid and perfectly place it on top of the pod. After that, it’s pressed down and sealed using heat to make sure it’s airtight. Step 6: Final Seal and Check Before the pods are finished, the machine performs one final quality check. It applies pressure to the lid to make sure it’s sealed properly. If a pod fails this check, it’s automatically discarded. If it passes, the pod is flipped up onto the final tray, ready to be boxed and shipped to you! Challenges and Improvements: This machine has been a game-changer for us. The machine’s modular design also means we can easily adapt to changing production needs, whether it’s increasing the number of flavors or adjusting for new seasonal offerings. And, because it’s on wheels, we can move it around our workspace as needed, making cleaning and maintenance much easier.
