清末民初时期，京城内的老百姓茶余饭后传的最多的就是“鬼宅” 和 “凶宅”，所谓“凶宅”之说并不夸张，在清末的京城不少王府、 大宅里，难免会有奴仆蒙冤而死，有的被活活打死、还有被逼死的，也有家丁、使女、老妈子上吊自杀的。人们将此类深宅大院指为“凶宅”。再有就是“鬼宅” 什么闹鬼的，闹狐仙的，有些“鬼宅”在天黑以后时不时的就会传出凄惨的嚎叫声。
