Being A Black Adult Carer with Kemi Forbes

from The Unapologetically Black Podcast · host Dope Black Women

In the black community, family is everything and when a relative gets ill, it is expected that the family members care for that person. However the concept of being a young carer is one that is not very familiar within our community. In this episode, the Dope Black Women are joined by their very first guest, Kemi Forbes. Kemi works for a charity that supports young carers and also cared for her Mother for 10 years. Together they discuss the challenges of being a young carer, and the sacrifices they made, how they balance being a carer with their career and personal life and the importance and value of family.  More young black people are carers than they even realize, so in this episode we also discuss what resources you can access if you do find that you are a young carer. The best place to start is seeking out support from your local authority. The Dope Black Women Podcast is all about bringing black women together to discuss the topics that matter to us, connect and support with each other and through our digital sisterhood.  Your hosts are: Leanne Levers, Roshan Roberts and Olivia Cope. You can follow Dope Black Women online at @DopeBlackWomen1 on Instagram, @DopeBlackWomen on Twitter and Dope Black Women on Facebook
