Being a young teenager and author
from The Emmanuel P. Makate Podcast · host Emmanuel P. Makate
What does it really take to build a movement that empowers young writers and creatives? In this milestone episode, Emmanuel P. Makate sits down with Boniwe Letsitsi, co-founder of the Azanian Arts Union and co-founder of the Voices of the Future poetry anthology, for an honest conversation about the vision behind one of South Africa's emerging youth creative movements. Boniwe Letsitsi a 13 year old born and bred in the dusty streets of Steynsrus, met Emmanuel in the intermediate phase, there the two creatives started writing a book titled: "My dog changed me" which they sent to a teacher - Ms Thokozile Jwili who is an English educator at Steynsrus Combined School. Even though the book wasn't eventually published, the two took that as preparation to something as big as the Voices of the future poetry anthology. "I would like to thank my parents for their contribution to who I am today, Mamokete Sithole, and my father, 'Babi' Sithole, for making me the independent young girl I am today, I'm thirteen years old and my passion exceeds my age, I knew to stand tall even when bullies tried to shame my voice, and now look, my light luminates so bright it hinders their sight." Boniwe continued to praise Emmanuel Makate in the union for his support and great leadership.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-emmanuel-p-makate-podcast--7107305/support.
