Being Christian isn't the same as being nice
from Faith in the Cracks · host Karen Wright
Moral Therapeutic Deism was a phrase coined in 2005 by researchers Christian Smith and Melinda Denton. The National Study of Youth and Religion was used for a book called Soul Searching as well as for a book Almost Christian. These books point to the displacement of Christianity with Moral Therapeutic Deism. We have to remember that faith isn't about being nice and making ourselves happy. Faith is about seeking after a God who calls us to more. True faith is deeper and can withstand the doubts and troubles of life instead of only calling on God when we are in trouble. We can find faith and nurture it when we are in community instead of seeking an "individual relationship with God." Come seek true faith that lasts and that will serve you through times good and bad.
